Today, I noticed that when I try to open some video files it would take like 27-28 seconds to play. Tried opening them with different players and some were slower than others, but slow nonetheless. Not all video files are slow to open, but a majority of them are. Any ideas why?

I have the same issue. No matter what type of file it is, and no matter what software I use, VLC, WMP, etc, it takes about 10-15 seconds to open

10-15 seconds not bad compared to mine, 25 to 30 seconds.

@JMedlock83 runs an insider build as well. Ding, ding, ding...pretty good indication. See if others are reporting the same thing through the insider hub.

Some things to consider:
• size of the files
• type of files
• are the video files stored on an external drive
• are the files on an SSD or a spinner....

Try to open how ... ?
- double click on file name ?
- open player then File > Open ?

All files in the same location (i.e. on same drive)? Try relocating test files to another drive ?

If on primary drive, anything else going on (program updates, whether related to video files or not) ?

Video programs used ?

I was just having a look at this and I noticed that it takes quite a bit longer to open using Media Player app. But if I open the video file with "Movies & TV" app, it's a lot faster.

Think the problem lies within Windows Explorer because that's where I usually open my video files. I don't seem to have any problems opening video files within the players itself or from any other applications. Opening video files from Windows Explorer just takes forever to load/play.

Today, I noticed that when I try to open some video files it would take like 27-28 seconds to play. Tried opening them with different players and some were slower than others, but slow nonetheless. Not all video files are slow to open, but a majority of them are. Any ideas why?
There is a possibility ( especially if you updated some of the players ) that the buffering is set too high.
For me , I always had trouble getting it set right for all my systems. So I set it to load the whole video then play.
Takes longer but no pauses.

Think the problem lies within Windows Explorer because that's where I usually open my video files. I don't seem to have any problems opening video files within the players itself or from any other applications. Opening video files from Windows Explorer just takes forever to load/play.
Try another file explorer type program as a test - xplorer2 lite (32bit freeware, still works fine in 64bit Windows installations), can easily be uninstalled after finished with.

Tried using xplorer2 and opening a video file is definitely faster than with Windows Explorer. So, my suspicion was right, there's something wrong with Windows Explorer on my PC.
