Has anybody tried to run VMWorkstation 16 on Windows 11 yet? I installed Windows 11 last Friday and so far Workstation 16 seems to work almost flawlessly. The only thing that does not work is suspending the VM which results in an error message and the immediate shutdown of the guest os. Other than that it works just fine. But I only run a Linux based system for my online activity and don't use most of the advanced functionalities of Workstation 16 so your mileage may vary.

I'm running VMware 16 Player in Windows 11 Beta to run the Win 11 Dev builds and the only problem I've noticed is that if I let OS that is running in the VM sleep to long VMware shuts down or crashes and I have to restart it. I have set the OS running in the VM to never sleep but I haven't tested it yet.

I had to go away for awhile today and put the host OS in sleep mode. When I woke my desktop all I had to do was click on my VM to wake the monitor. Looks like not using Sleep Mode on my VM is working.

Great but what happens if you try to suspend the guest using the suspend button of VMWare Player? That's what crashes my VM.

Apparently they consider the latest release a beta. Or it's an oversight. I left my setting on 16.x

I think that is just the default name and doesn't mean anything. I just leave it. If you open About... then it is 16.2.0 build...

Ah. And you can suspend the guest? On my system this crashes the guest. Maybe it has something to do with Hyper V being enabled on the host. Or the fact that the vm is a Linux system.

Well it looks like the culprit is Hyper V (again). Let's hope VMWare fixes this with an upcoming release.

I gave up on that myself. VMWare's last update was supposed to make it and Hyper-V play nicely together. That didnt happen, and ive been wanting to play with WSL and sandbox. That would make my server in VMWare run slow as mud because disabling the processor virtualization in the virtual machines was the only way it would start even. We are talking like 10 mins for the virtual machine to start up.

Now happily running the server in Hyper-V. Runs so much smoother. I dont even have to worry if i forget its running and restart the host. Hyper-V will shut the virtual machine down and then my pc restarts.

Yeah the coexistence APIs run like a dog. It is still better to add a second modifiedvboot entry with hypervisor disabled so you can boot in HyperV mode or VMWare mode. Same applies to Virtualbox.
