That dude has no idea WTH he is talking about. People can still get to you, even though it has the pad lock on it. I use VPN 24/7

In a lot of situations TOR is a much better bet and often will allow you to access blocked regional content - you don't have to use "Onion addresses" to access TOR -- the default browser will probably by default use Duckduckgo as its search engine and you can also use standard http type addresses for accessing websites.

Apart from the special case of corporate VPN's commercial VPNs don't make a lot of sense for consumers unless you need to logon to a specific country -- not normally necessary as I said even for blocked content as the chances are that your TOR connection won't be interpreted by the content provider as coming from a country where the content is geo-blocked. If it does just disconnect and re-connect again to TOR --you'll get a completely new connection.
