(W10) W11, why am I suddenly having Core isolation driver issues

Besides the usual W11 and HP updates, my computer has not been changed recently. However, suddenly I find it has "Incompatible drivers" and the "Memory Integrity" has been turned off!

Even though the same drivers caused no problem before and the Memory Integrity was turned on!

The only change to the computer has been the recent W11 updates + 2x HP updates (?)

So I don't understand how or why this suddenly happened when it all worked before?

(Update Correction: on 30 August 2022 I also updated Ableton Live 11 light to ableton_live_lite_11.1.6_64 =but can't imagine this caused the problem?)

Some users think Microsoft is trying to force software developers to pay them to verify drivers, something which MS has done before with no success.
A recent update has caused this so the options are to either disable core isolation or uninstall the problem driver/program until MS fix this.

Your display shows that usb2ser.sys has an import date of yesterday. Did you plug in a USB device then which perhaps triggered the install of a driver?

Yes, it is highly suspicious that I have had no problem for almost a year (since upgrading from W10) and now suddenly have a problem. So, I can easily agree that such an argument (= forcing software developers) might apply. However, if this is the case, they should not do it through consumers, but find a way to confront software developers directly. And we as consumers should not easily accept such attitudes if this is truly the case. In general, I find MS to be getting more aggressive about trying to force people to do things, particularly paying more for services. Greed is growing exorbitantly at an unpleasant rate. Led by firms such as Amazon. Unfortunately, the leadership attitude of MS is also growing increasingly belligerent. Turning us back into a society of classes. Those who can afford, and the larger majority who cannot. But thanks for your great reply Bastet.

Not sure where you can see the date of (=date of yesterday) two days ago, but in reply: I did a system backup on that day to an external drive. To be honest, I do not know what usb2ser.sys = Media Tek inc. = and MBB are! (I have done many backups with this drive and connected others with no previous trouble, but that has now changed!)

I suspect Microsoft believe it would be a case of customers complaining to the software developers who then pay them to verify their drivers thus removing the message. A Microsoft MVP has explained that MS has done this before better on the MS community. If he mentions it again I’ll post it here.

Hi folks
I just made a post also that with the feature turned on after the latest W11 update laptop started going bonkers with cpu use and was running quite hot. Disabled it and everything back to OK again.

The entry of usb2ser.sys shows "import date 9/3/2022". I would assume the driver was installed by the system backup.

I have a WD external drive. Whenever I plug it in, it tries to install its own drivers but cannot because memory integrity is on. The drive works fine for all operations so the driver is not necessary. I use Windows show-hide function to block the driver.

show-hide function ? Do not know what this is so will have to google it and try this out!

Perhaps that is what happened? For some reason, the memory integrity was switched off this time and I started the computer with the WD drive already connected and it installed its own driver. So I am going to have to find out what this "show-hide" function is, find out how to remove those drivers listed, and re-activate memory integrity = always making sure it is active when connecting an external WD drive.

Although RFS might have given a clue about what might have happened this time (although it still remains unclear why memory integrity was switched off this time = if that is what happened) ?

It's a utility called wushowhide that you can download. Here's one article explaining it.

Removed or renamed the drivers that were blocking memory integrity = which is now once again active (although showing an annoying "actions recommended" sign, without it being clear to me what actions are the ones causing this = all notifications are activated as are all threat and Virus protection = although I don't use the OneDrive option which might be what they are trying to get me to use).

These totally unclear warning and fault notifications have always infuriated me about using an MS computer. Is it so hard to actually give you full information on what the notification is directly referring to, be it one or more things (information that everyone can understand regardless of their level of computer expertise? MS still refuses to accept that we are now living in the day and age where many people have to, or want to, do their own computer alterations/repairs and so on = at least those working at home!)?

As for connecting my older external drives (WD/Seagate/other = of which I have many) = well I haven't tried them yet = so do not know what is going to happen when I do?

Although I downloaded the utility wushowhide I do not know how to use this when I connect one of my external drives to prevent it from loading a driver (read the article link but has not helped me understand how to do this). But for the moment need to get other things done, but since the last system backup I did was with this memory integrity problem I will have to redo this system backup soon.
