W11 24H2
Just a tid bit I did a clean Rufus install of W11 pro 24H2 and began to complete updates, install programs and noticed a moderate performance hit when compared.
It's an Idea pad G570 and granted only has 4 gig's RAM right now, If I can increase that I will. Drive is SATA SSD but as said, notably slower.

I suppose that it's an unsupported installation.

If you have Core Isolation enabled, you may see some gain by disabling it.

Aside from the obvious UI changes, W11 introduces a lot of kernel-level security features. These can impact performance on CPU's slower than what's recommended for W11. Increasing RAM to 8 GB or more will result in snappier performance once apps are loaded.

Try 23h2, I noticed a difference with my gen 2 unsupported laptop when it was running 24h2. I also have a fully supported laptop, that is staying on 23h2 maybe until 25h2 or whenever ms get thier s#it together.

Before i committed this LT I ran 23H2 on a VM and then upgraded that to 24H2. Noticed it right away. I also lost all network connections to my NAS and a PC. took me a while to hunt down that fix! but at least now I know how to fix it in minutes. In fact a few of my clients in the last week all lost ther shared connections to PC's and Nas's Boom I'm a hero again LOL

That Idea Pad was released in 2011. I built my PC is 2014 and it simply hates 24H2 and runs like it has a parked truck chained to it if it’s loaded. So I went back to 23H2.

On the other hand, 23H2 runs well. Not as good as when 23H2 was first available though, with each update it get’s a little more laggy

Thanks Steve, I pretty much have done all that now as well as aded 4 gigs of ram to max for this board. I also like running CrapFixer and turning off a whole slew of Crap, hah.

I guess I should update my profile but in short, I am a independent owner operator of PC windows and related equipment service company. But the fact is I am 67 years old, been doing this for 28 years and I'm really getting tired of it. I'm just about fully retired, I still tend to about 200 clients remotely but slowing that down as well.

Thanks again.

Oh and BTW everyone I have a thread running on tenforum about a fast user switching issue and as a result of today's test upgrade on another partition of this laptop I found that it corrected several issues, so fingers crossed I am going to do a remote Upgrade of 10 to 11-24H2 and see if that fixes the option of switching users being broken. Then I can’t help but ask why you’re attempting to run Windows 11 24H2 on a 14 year old IdeaPad with 4GB ram?
Sure, there’ll be members that say “My PC is 15 years old and I run 24H2”
But seriously, at what cost?

I use this LT in the garage as a system for programming Remote Control equipment (helicopters and airplanes) and then I look up spread sheets etc for data on reloading etc, and then when a client calls I use splashtop to do a remote so I din't have to get up and go in the house. Stuff like that. Oh and I'm not teal crazy on learning Linux at this point in life haha.

Nice.

Wouldn’t 23H2 be able to run the same operations? I have a 23H2 US Eng and a UK Eng ISO available on my server for members to use. Just hollar.

But sure, if that’s all you’re using it for, I suppose it wouldn’t matter. 24H2/23H2

Thanks for the offer, I do have probably every freaking version of windows since 3.1 on my Nas. Yes I certainly could have just gone with 23H2 but there was this nagging bit about security changes they made to 24H2 that I just knew I had to figure out and glad i did because just this past week clients were calling, they could no longer access shares on pcs and nas boxes the day before the upgrade. I always tell clients don't upgrade but of course there will be some that don't even notice it happen.
