OS
Windows 11 Pro 23H2 (22631.3296).
The size of W11, MS Off, apps updates etc. has increased from 43 to 53 GB on my active drive. Have no clutter on it, run CCleaner regularly before each reboot and Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup after each update?

Do I need to run some specific disk tests etc.?

Could the increase be due to indexing...I have none movies, songs etc. on the drive? But I do occasionally watch movies on it, (not on the desktop).

Is it wise to disable indexing, it's pros and cons and would it increase the responsiveness of my laptop?

If yes how do I disable it?

Hoping to hear from you experts.

Thanks.

Another thought could the increase be due to MS Off updates, do I need to uninstall MS off 2021 older updates like W11s, IF yes how and could they be a reason for Word icon under Recommended at times not showing as it should vs. as a white blank icon?

I don't think that ShareX would increase that much of a space.....

Are you talking about Windows directory only or whole C: disk/partition?
Ccleaner is not of much help for that but windows keeps a lot of stuff and indexing is not very large. although with fast SSDs like yours it doesn't do much or anything good.Other places like Driver store that keeps at least one previous version of drivers, Temporary browser files, many others. If you enable displaying of System and Hidden files and folders you can see many more displayed.

The whole C: disk partition, not Windows directory.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

The size of W11, MS Off, apps updates etc. has increased from 43 to 53 GB on my active drive.

System restore points can build up to a significant size if you're not careful. They're kept in System Volume Information, so not immediately obvious. It's the first place I look to clean up should the used space grow more than expected.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop.

System restore points can build up to a significant size if you're not careful. They're kept in System Volume Information, so not immediately obvious. It's the first place I look to clean up should the used space grow more than expected.

@Bree , you hit the bull's eye right at the sweet spot @ Mach +10 ;-)

I thought had disabled System restore on all partitions, just checked it was ON on C active but disabled on others.

After turning it off and deleting all restore points back to 45 GB.

Thanks for clearing.

Best regards!

Do I need to keep up Tree?
