WATCH OUT FOR RAM PRICES!

So much for the bubble mockers. Indubitably there will be some new scheme that will eventually cause RAM prices to crash. Not sure I'll live long enough to see the day but who knows? By that time DRAM will be headed toward obsolete status so it won't matter anyway. The sky surely isn't falling because RAM prices are still sky high. What is falling are jobs as AI continues to eliminate employment positions at the rate of thousands a day. What is falling is peoples confidence and trust in big tech. What is falling is peoples autonomy, individual propitiatory rights, and liberty. The golden age is gone. Corporatism has replaced capitalism and free enterprise is dying.

"propitiatory"?

Possibly not the word that you meant.

The business seems to be moving into a phase where companies are starting to want revenue from their investments in AI. The price tag may be unexpectedly high for some users.

It's too bad that the captains of industry may not know what they're doing. (Dot-com bubble, 2001. Mortgage-backed securities crash, 2007+.) Plutocracy isn't good, but an incompetent kleptocracy is worse.

The business seems to be moving into a phase where companies are starting to want revenue from their investments in AI. The price tag may be unexpectedly high for some users.

However in a competitive economy, the "market" sets the upper limit of the price for any one provider.

As I've stated numerous times, the ludicrous increase in RAM prices is just the tip of the iceberg. Personal computers as we understood them (desk tops, DIY builds, home servers etc.) are being forced into becoming a thing of the past as fewer users can afford to purchase the hardware, more specifically the silicon. The world of home compute is grinding to a halt. Let the mockers read 'em and weep.

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
It's surely a good thing I do not have demanding computing needs and am satisfied using all my old stuff. Unless one has very deep pockets (I don't), upgrading our hardware is a thing of the past. We can only hope Elon Musk won't horde his new chips specifically for his own use. (But I bet he does)

I was lucky to buy a "boatload" of DDR5 before the madness broke loose, been building PC's left and right as the mobo's and CPU's are affordable compared to the memory that I got covered :-)

Wise move. I only got about 200GB of DDR4 before the crunch hit and that was mostly for my own use. Anyone exercising the prudence you did can easily compete with Dell and the rest of them. Still, we're already past the expense of memory as price increases moved on to SSDs and pretty much silicon in general, as I predicted it would. Even if the proverbial "bubble" bursts it is doubtless that we will ever be seeing prices as they were in 2024/25 for silicon. The domino effect is in full swing now as we continue to see these industries that depended on domestic end users and home compute topple as so few can afford to buy at ridiculously overinflated prices.

The end game is obvious. Corporate desires that we should all use hand held devices, become more dependant on their data servers for storage, and should we desire to use anything resembling a desk top that it may as well be a glorified word processor. Post #593 (1 hour and 46 minutes into the video) Rob Teller tells it the way it is: The end of the golden age.

Hey, as long as I can watch TikTok endlessly, keep up with my cat videos and take selfies of myself (I'm the most important person in the world) then who cares. 🤷‍♂️
