Windows 11 version 21H2
Hello

Hopefully somebody can help me.

I've been using Waterfox Classic since coming from Pale Moon a few years ago and have been quite happy until recently.

It has been using around 2GB of memory (my laptop has 16GB) and the fan is always at top speed. The pages take long to load and for some reason a page I visit daily now makes Waterfox crash. There is nearly always a few seconds delay when typing until the typed text appears on screen. The cursor sometimes doesn't react. Even typing this has been a struggle.

I have tried turning off hardware acceleration but it makes no difference.

I have disabled add-ons (I only use three add-ons at the moment) but no change in performance.

I've stuck with Waterfox Classic because it was like Pale Moon which in turn was like the old Firefox. Do I really have to try another browser?

Thanks

I'd first power off completely, pull out the power cord and on a Notebook remove the battery if possible then after booting up do an error checking of the drive, could be there's other issues.

For other browsers I like SeaMonkey [includes an E-Mail Client] and Vivaldi. I like the cross-platform offerings that work on Windows, Linux and Macintosh which narrowed the choices but after losing my MacBook Pro the shopping field is wider.

Hi

I just ran CHKDSK and everything was fine. I didn't expect to find a problem as it is a new laptop and the problem already existed on my old laptop.
Maybe something was transferred when I moved my Waterfox to the new laptop.

I have tried other browsers but find I have less control over them.
I have reduced my add-ons in Waterfox Classic to just three. The two important ones for me are Cookie AutoDelete and Adblock plus.
If another browser can allow me to add those on and be a lot more reliable than Waterfox Classic then I'll try it out.

If you like this particular browser, I would keep checking for Updates or Join the Community Support Page on Reddit-com : Waterfox Community Support | Reddit . The latter is especially useful as you have a crash to report.

This might explain some if not most of the issues.
Waterfox Classic is outdated regarding security patches, read the official note about active bugs:
The browser has to be 'prepared' for the evolving web and the OS it runs on.

First of all, you use what you like.

For the look and feel you can keep Classic around but you should further expect the encountered issues.

If this is your daily browser then it's recommended to use Pale Moon again since its security patching continues and the browser receives the needed updates.
