Weird OneDrive problem

I use OneDrive to sync my pictures, music and documents folders. The folders' default location is on a separate drive F: inside the OneDrive sync folder. I've had it this way for some time.

The problem is the thumbnails keep disappearing, even though the files are on a physical disk and set to 'keep on this device' - none of them are Files on Demand
This has only been happening since yesterday. A repair install hasn't solved it.

The attached pics are of three files in F:\Brian\OneDrive\Pictures and in F: root folder. Identical files - thumbnail is fine outside of OneDrive but not in the sync folder.
It happens to any folders containing thumbnails in OneDrive - album art is also affected. If I move the ones with thumbnails back to OneDrive the thumbnail will disappear again. Once they're gone I have to restart, then the process repeats

At a loss here so any ideas welcome

Not worked, all the thumbnails have gone for anything in OneDrive. They sort of 'flicker' briefly as I scroll through the folder but don't appear. Any ideas @Brink ?

You could try clearing and resetting the thumbnail cache below to see if may help if it's corrupted.

Already done that. It works for a while after a restart, the thumbnails populate again but then they just vanish and then won't reload. Only folders in OneDrive have this problem. The thumbnails are visible if I view the OneDrive folders online

Nope not once they've disappeared. It's like some of them will briefly appear then vanish again, like the thumbnail is created but isn't stored or it's over-written. I'll try and get a screen recording and upload a link

The only other thing I can think of is if there are a lot or large size image files in this folder causing it to not always show the thumbnails.

It doesn't matter how many files or how big they are, or which folder they're in. Even one file on it's own has no thumbnail. The folders also only show a generic folder icon. If I copy the same folders to outside of OneDrive the thumbnails are fine.

Also any Music files have no thumbnail either, just the icon for the default music player. Again, if I move the files out of OneDrive the thumbnail is created for the album art

Well I did a full reset, re-synced everything. This morning the thumbnails were there but now all gone again. Completely at a loss now, nothing left to try.
It's weird that they'll re-appear for some time after a reboot, but the thumbnail cache isn't being rebuilt - it's like something is preventing them from displaying.

@Brink - a few days ago when I was changing my SSD I moved my OneDrive content to a different drive. Instead of copying the whole folder I created a new folder for OneDrive, then copied all my pics, docs and music into this folder. Then I unlinked the PC and reset the OneDrive location. Since then the icons have displayed properly. Is it possible there was a 'hidden' file in the OneDrive root folder that was causing the problem? I guess it's a mystery I won't ever solve, just glad it seems ok again now.

I had previously tried moving the whole OneDrive folder without creating a new one, but this didn't solve it.
