Thinking of upgrading my Dell 9720 c -drive two 2tb from 1 tb. and then partition new Nvme to 2 (1tb) partitions.then using partition 1 for windows and for main software. And use 2nd partition for misc files.i already have 2tb in second drive. I then would just periodically clone partition 1 of Nvme 1. Thinking if something went wrong I would have backup to just swap in and probably would be able to access 2nd partition of first Nvme if something when wrong through my external Nvme enclosure

RAID 0 combination lead to a usable capacity of 4 TB and improved performance numbers. However, the risk of loosing data is a lot bigger (one drive fault can destroy all data). The RAID 0 combination uses two PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 2280 SSDs.

WARNING Be careful when creating a RAID, all your data on the storage devices will be deleted.

Thanks I was just thinking of my OS system crashing .from some software program or virus Which I assume my second Nvme would be fine. Also I thought 2nd partition of first Nvme would probably be okay.to transfer over and then reclone Nvme again

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
The 1tb has original. samsung Nvme by dell which has like 4 partitions. I know i could delete some of the partions. i think I still have like 500gb for programs. And my second 2tb Nvme is a samsung 980 pro But I download a lot of games. So I am thinking of upgrading to new 2tb samsung 990 pro when it comes out and use old one for cloning of first partition when things go bad. And setup the new one with 2 partions 1 for windows and the 2nd partition for more software. Nvme's are getting cheaper all the time just bought a PNY 1 tb for $50.00 and a thunderbolt 4 external enclosure. The speeds are crazy forget about thumb drives and even external ssd drives.

Well then my temporary answer is... you can ofc buy whatever hardware you want.
But protecting yourself in case of Windows drive disaster, is as simple as having a fresh backup handy.

Most of us on here use Macrium Reflect or AOMEI Backupper (free or paid).
It's a lot simpler, and fast as well.

For example: My backup method

It takes me 2.5 minutes to make a backup and 2:05 to restore from a backup.
I even made a guide... Quickie picture guide

You can restore to an existing drive or to a replacement drive, as easy as falling off a log. :-)

Yes, you can also keep a spare cloned drive handy. But the Windows install on that drive, will be as old as the day you made it. Backups are generally, much more recent.

I guess maybe explained wrong aren't your clones at
Least 500tb compressed if using reflect and cloning a 1 tb Nmve drive . And if your storing that on one of my internal drives that kind of kills storage or anymore games or whatever.thats why I was trying to get clonning off internal drives And using external.some game are 100gb buy themself.

Thanks again

This is why I asked for a screenshot of Disk Management.

My backups and restores are lightning fast, because I keep the data to a minimum on my Windows partition... aka, less than 40 GB. For example, I install my games on a storage drive.

IF you can arrange your data so that your Windows partition is NOT gigantic... then it's pretty much impossible to beat, simple backups and restores.
