what is asmt 2115 scsi disk device?

Just bought a used laptop and found under disk drives it is showing two drives. It should only have one. One is the nvme the other says asmt 2115 scsi disk device

Googled that and it says it’s some kind of usb device.

Anyway after resetting and turning encryption off it has now disappeared. So is there something there or not? (I know - I need to take the back off and look but I’m doing an image first so I can reset it back to how it was when it arrived).

It might have to go back anyway as the touch pad isn’t working properly. But I thought it might be worth trying a clean install of 23H2 first in case it’s some kind of software glitch. It arrived with 24H2 on.

Very odd. Having done a system image of how it arrived, (it came with 24H2 installed and the touchpad wasn’t working properly) I’ve now done a clean install of 23H2 and the touchpad is working again. Asmt2115 thing now seems to have disappeared and it’s just showing two nvme drives (I’m guessing one is Optane on the drive).

If the clean install fixes the touchpad I’ll change the ssd drive.
