What is everyone's typing speed?

If willing to share - what speed do you type at?
You can test anywhere but try to do the 30 sec variant on whatever website.
I used Monkeytype so to get the fairest results use it on the 30 sec
When I say fairest, I don't mean most accurate as of course fairest would be a much longer time but just so you don't get bored!

Here is mine. I'm not superspeed at typing but not too slow in my opinion.

That test isn't fair for those that look at the keys when they type.

I can't find a wpm test that lets you type whatever you want.

I only type with 2-3 fingers.

A wpm test isn't supposed to be a sentence you've pre-wrote. Its randon, Hence finds you're real wpm as opposed to me making this sentence and using it. Because i already knew what i was gonna type, Looking at the keyboard to type as well as looking on screen will absolutely lower the score, Otherwise kinda fudging results, On you're one i got 5 seconds, on the other one was 130wpm with 99% accuracy.

Yeah, I know. I took two years of typing in high school.
I blame the teacher. 24 year old babe named Miss Felt... we never stood a chance.

I graduated high school in 1975. The age of the mini-skirts.
We had a bunch of those teachers. Four if I recall.
Typing, French, English and Art. All at least ten on a one to ten scale. (Didn't take French).

Had two more like that in Junior High... Spanish and English.

I've told the story before...I took typing in High School (yes, on typewriters). It was me and 30 girls in the class. I was distracted, lol. If I made a mistake I pulled the paper from the typewriter without using the release, drawing the ire of the teacher. If I had just finished I'd have scored OK, but it was the only subject I ever flunked. I never learned to type without looking at the keys and I am a two finger typer. Many, many posts on forums has made me pretty speedy for two fingers, but I still look up occasionally to see cap locks was on, etc. Long story short, you don't want to know my speed, lol

That Monkeytype site says 24 words, but 100% accuracy, lol

5 High Schools in 4 years, fourth one needed half credit of something so took the typing class, manual Smith Corona, teacher got a new electric but would not let us use it. I got up to 40 wpm then didn't use it next 2 years until going into the Navy in '58. Four years later got a job that required log entries but the main typing was on Western Union/Teletype Corp. Model 28 machines transmitting data next 31.5 years, had to maintain yearly test of 35 wpm.

Not particularly fast but faster than most of my friends and colleagues.

Problem with typing speed testsbis they are limited to letter and numbers. PC users often use a wider range of symbols.

TBH inability to do fast typing is not really that much of an issue for most of us. For a typical report, I spend far more time thinking about what I am writing, how to structure reports, preparation of graphics for inclusion etc.

Being able to type faster would save me less that 5% of total time (and that is a conservative upper guess).

Speed and accuracy was maybe important in days of typing pools where you wrote a report by hand (doing all the thinking there), and you sent it to a typist to get it typed up.

Of course, the typing pool has long gone (along with the fun of chatting up the young ladies).

What is forgotten most is the requirement to proof read documents.

A very clever colleague suffers mild dyslexia so he asks me to proof read his reports.

However, for many report writers, they rely on spell checkers but do not proof read and hence deliver substandard reports. As the old phrase says "The devil is in the detail".

I took 2 yrs typing in HS also on manual machines. The second year did not go as good as the first. My buddy and I would see who was the last one to "ring" the carriage return bell before class started. The teacher would make one or both of us stand in the hall facing the wall while the class went on. :O(

I am a lot slower typing a premade sentence in front of me especially with words that don't make sense strung together ha.
