What is the difference between Skype and MS Teams?

That's what I thought.
There's the "reason" that MS is creating/switching to Teams, even though it owns Skype.

It's kind of like Copilot and Azure... gotta pay to play. :/

SKYPE usually required some sort of account and some type of "Phone over IP software" -- these days Ms teams just uses the internet -- although for ONE to ONE meetings google meet works a treat and is free for however long you want to natter -- those women on Jupiter can yap for years at zero cost to those on planet Earth.

And in spite of my mis givings of a lot of google apps this one works brilliantly on almost any sort of phone too.

and I think MS Teams is not in Windows 10 by default. it's only in Windows 11.

We've been told a long time ago that Skype is going to be deprecated. So long ago that most of us have forgotten MS ever said it!

Same goes for the Control Panel . . . I was instructed to use just a few days ago.

But you can install it to Windows 10 very easily. https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-teams/download-app

I can't believe a whole windows release has passed (since Windows 10 or even before?) and control panel still hasn't been fully replaced by settings app.

Skype was awesome before the purchase. But when MS bought it the service degraded so much that I stopped using it for years. After a while I started using the chat fearure a bit, but calls were still horrible. By the time they got the service to an acceptable state, services like WhatsApp or similar had already become a thing.

I had just introduced my class to Skype when the Pandemic hit. Thankfully, we had learned how to use it when our Senior Activity Center closed down!

All during the Pandemic, we used Skype as our classroom. It was hard at first, but the longer we used it, the better it/we became.

We learned to share our files and work onscreen.

Some said it was a lifesaver because it kept us in contact with real people when everything public was closed.

Y'know, therein lies the real problem with Teams. There is a Teams version for the general public (us'ns) and a business version. Both have the same name, and when I try to find help for the GP version, I invariably get shown instructions for the business version. :ffs:

It would be nice if the two versions didn't have the same name; then, maybe I could find the help I need.

I even tried Copilot the other day, and although it did show me some good tutorials, I got one for the business version of Team!

Kinda looks like it. I had the Teams Chat version, but then Microsoft included the general public version in Microsoft 365 and Teams Chat went away and I now have Teams.

showbiz industry have wiser/intelligent naming standards than anyone else especially computing industry,for example madonna, sharon stone, broke shields,...............,etc

For individuals the free Teams is hopeless --there's no way to test connections with test audio / video like there used to be. For basic video calling to a single person Google Meet on a phone too. It works on Linux as well as Windows if you install chrome or edge (been available on Linux for ages),

For 1:1 no time limit -- for groups 60 min the limit (free version).
