What phones does everyone use?

Bought Motorola G73 5G on July 1, 2023. Was on Samsung M30 before. Samsung was Amoled screen but Moto G73 is IPS LCD. A bit low quality screen but I compromised on price. There is difference of INR 5000 between Amoled and LCD so I saved that money. Since I don't use phone to watch videos or social media much I decided to spend less. Always on PC to surf web, social media, movies blabla.

I have been a Samsung guy for years. I have never owned anything else. My current phone is an unlocked Galaxy 21 5G. I purchase my phones outright and just purchase the most basic phone plan. I don't use my phone much except for texting my son (and others) and sending Threema instant messages to my brother in the US (my phone plan only has Canada-wide texting included).

For under $10.00 CA, I purchased Threema for my phone and installed the Windows desktop app (there is also a Mac OS version). I have been delighted with the Threema app because now I can stay in touch with my brother daily. It is a very solid app with good Tech Support.

So have I, but prior to going Samsung with their S3 (yeah, many moons ago), I owned a Palm Treo with Windows CE on it...

Until recently, I never really saw much point in this sort of thread, as in the end, most android smartphones are similar, and frankly, most are overpriced like I-Phones (which I refuse to use point blank).

However, I have recently become aware of an important feature for Android users with hearing aids.

Many newer hearing aids use Low Energy Bluetooth, and can have sound streamed directly from Android phones with ASHA capability (Audo Streaming for Hearing Aids). Both aids and phone need ASHA capability.

The quality of sound is far superior than direct listening from phone speakers, and (for my aids), I can turn off the hearing aid microphone to cut out external noise.

The Oticon site has a good support section where you can check if your phone (or one you intend to buy) has ASHA capability. I cannot guarantee if a phone listed as having ASHA will work with other makes of ASHA capable hearing aids but I see no reason why not.

So, this one feature alone now makes phone selection more important - previously it was just cost versus general features (storage amount mostly) to me (no gaming interest for example).

Of course, there are top of the range hearing aids that use full bluetooth and will connect to any phone, pc etc, but these are at a hefty premium price and not (in UK) available on the NHS. These are (allegedly) more power hungry though (@NavyLCDR - any comment?).

I understand your aversion to iPhones, but, ofc, millions don't share that aversion, and many, many hearing-aid companies are now participating in the MFi program (Made for iPhone). These hearing aids offer both a direct connection to any broadcast on the iPhone (I listen to podcasts at night, and disturb no one while doing it) that automatically disables the hearing aid microphone, and hands-free smart phone call receiving, that lets me accept incoming calls (the ring happens in my aid, not on the phone) with a single tap on the aid, and talk through the mike on the aid. "Hanging up" takes just another tap. Works beautifully.

I cannot argue with this but I hate iphones. I was on verge of getting one for points you make but now ASHA is more common, I get most of benefits on a c. £130 phone.

The one plus iphones have is you get full handsfree . Android is one way only.

Having said that I also have the oticon connectclip which connects to any bluetooth phone or pc and my aids to give handsfree.It does not require a t-loop neckloop.

It has a remote microphone mode which works well in noisy environments e.g. pubs with loud music.

It subdues a lot of the background noise and I can hear people close by much more clearly.

I just put device on bar pointing to who I am listening too.

One funny incident was I nipped to gents and left device on bar. The female barmaid spoke close to remote mic and I heard it dead clear and jumped out of my skin thinking she was in the gents as well lol.

The spying potential is ..........

Odd thing..., I found it to be a bit sluggish at first, until I did some re-tweaking, especially the RAM Plus thing. Seems good now.

I haven't noticed any slowdowns, but I restart my device every now and then, so a lot of stuff that's been running awhile gets cleared.

"Auto optimization" is supposed to do that for you, but as I said, I do manual restarts instead, so I leave it off...

I have a boring old Samsung A32 5G. I paid $200 for it and I don't use it for much other than emergencies and the odd phone call. I try not to text with it as I hate the little keyboard that pops up. And autocorrect is the devil. I would rather type into a computer and send an email.

That's right, I am an unabashed Luddite. lol

Samsung phones are notorious for having a

load of crap running in the background!

There's a couple tweaks in Developer Options that help.
Purging memory via Device Care or a Restart once a day usually suffices.
