Should i leave it on Windows RE or Swap it to Windows PE Based and update my USB recovery disc as well?

Right now Recovery media is i think in Default Windows RE mode, i don't mind updating it, just curious which is best for WIndows 11 Pro 64bit system

WinRe is the recommended method - it does not require downloads of up to 1 GB of new files, and also optionally supports backup over wifi.

The default is now winRe You only need WinPE if the winre partion/folder is missing or you experience a compatibility issue.

In simple terms "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Ok Will Keep it on WinRe as it is then, i may still read on the differences with that link.

No i wasn't having any compatiblitiy issues

just wanted to see i guess which is best to use, Will probably stick with the Default since it's not broke

My choice was for WinPE. The explanation is simple: If your drive fails you won't be able to boot from WinRE.
I have one of those boot able drives based on Win 10 PE that has many tools. I have updated it with my MReflect 8 that I bought at half the price during black friday.

This is incorrect.

The USB Rescue drive created from the WinRe files but boots fine even if drive has failed.

Only if you tell Macrium to put it on the boot menu, and that applies whether it's WinPE or WinRE. If you tell it to put the WinRE rescue media on a USB then you'll always be able to boot from that.

I prefer making a WinRE bootable usb because a) it requires no extra download, and b) WinRE supports using WiFi.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

Yes, you can create a rescue drive using WinRE. I was refering to the main drive WinRE where Macrium can be installed as an option.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

Only if you tell Macrium to put it on the boot menu, and that applies whether it's WinPE or WinRE. If you tell it to put the WinRE rescue media on a USB then you'll always be able to boot from that.

I prefer making a WinRE bootable usb because a) it requires no extra download, and b) WinRE supports using WiFi.

With WinRE, make sure you backup the recovery partition as well - Reflect uses that to generate recovery media. You can end up in a quandry if your have a more recent WinRE recoveery medium from macrium than the WinRE in the recoivery partition. You may not be able to run the Macrium recovery in that case. There is no issue if you backup and resre the recovery partition along with the rest of the system drive.

I do make sure i backup the Entire NvMe SSD when i do my backups, so assume it does get all the partitions exactly as it shows
