What's the deal with Home and This PC and what should I be using?

So with the latest Win11 builds, what's the point of the new Home location in Explorer and why would I use and customize that over This PC? I already use Winaero Tweaker to add custom locations to This PC.

And, why is EVERYTHING nested under "Desktop" on the left pane.

Your screenshot shows that you have turned on Show all folders for the navigation pane. You might test turning it off like below to see if you may like that view better.

Well, turning Show All Folders off doesn't remove them, it just collapses them I thought.. and I'd rather not have what I don't need there at all.

This PC is supposed to be fully collapsed to easily access disks and partitions rather than specific locations, and that's the default.

"Home" location is actually renamed from "favorites", very likely because it makes more sense, MS seems likely borrowed this schema from linux.
Home location (or favorites) is to pin specific locations of you like, which is not possible in This PC

This makes sense, though we CAN customize This PC... and I like them being "hard configured" rather than pinned (which can be easily or mistakenly removed). I also like that with Winaero Tweaker, I can set a custom location AND a custom icon and label for the shortcuts I make.
