You found it! What a relief. Both the mouse and this HID Keyboard Device have to be disabled to allow the computer to sleep. I could not see the relationship. Now I do. I still don't know why this changed, though. I have had this mouse for years and never had this problem before. It just cropped up a month ago. I am assuming it may have been some other change I made with the system.USB\VID_046D&PID_C537 is your mouse receiver:
Unplug it and HID Keyboard Device should disappear.
The sleep feature is performing normally now. I can live with the inability to use the mouse to wake it. Thanks everyone for your help.
