Where is Windows 11 24H2 for the Beta Channel?

Ok, the title says it, I just find it very strange now that 24H2 is offered to everyone including the general public but still not to Beta channel users. Does anyone have any word on when the Beta channel will be converting? My RP build has been on 24H2 since May 23, 2024.

On UUP Dump, they still only have 23H2 beta.

I just don't get it, Beta is the only insider build still on 23H2. If it doesn't show next week I'm going to be of the mindset we'll have to exit the Beta channel to ever convert.

MS is probably deprecating the Beta channel... like just about everything else. :D

I don't expect it to change any time soon, not while 23H2 RTM is still in support. Beta is the only Insider channel now where new 23H2 updates can be tested. For 24H2 the Dev channel seems to be playing the part of 24H2 'beta testing'.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.
    29 Sept. 2026 Feature Update to 26H2 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 26H2.

I was wondering what the reasoning would be, I know they got rid of the Beta channel for Windows 10 last month.

Dev is to 24H2 what Beta is to 23H2. As such, it is possible to leave Dev and return to RTM 24H2 without having to do do a clean install. I tested that here....

Thanks, good to know, it's just as a long time Beta channel user I was perfectly happy being a beta tester as it was always stable enough for my needs and fun to play with. I just didn't count on getting locked to an older Windows version as that kind of defeats the fun of being on beta.

I play with them all, I multi-boot all the Insider builds as native boot vhdx. However, all my machines have an RTM build as their primary OS, be that 23H2, 24H2, or in one case Win10.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

Am I correct in thinking that the Canary builds are 24H2? When I look with Winver and in System > About, it just says Version Dev OS build 27758.1000.

Only tenuously so, Canary code is built on 24H2 but has evolved beyond that now. To go back to 24H2 you'd need a clean install.

The Dev channel on the other hand is pure 24H2 with an Enablement Package installed. It is technically possible to leave Dev Insiders and go back to RTM 24H2 without the need for a clean install. I tested that here....

Yes, the fact that Canary has started calling itself 'Dev' adds weight to my theory that the Dev channel is now being used as the 'de facto' beta testing channel for 24H2, leaving the Beta channel to do the same job for 23H2. If I am correct then Beta will not step up to 24H2 until 23H2 goes EoL.

This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.
    29 Sept. 2026 Feature Update to 26H2 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 26H2.

I was just asking out of curiosity. I will admit that I have thought about doing a clean install on my old desktop and my laptop. They would be up and running in a few hours at the most. The Canary Builds are not very exciting. On my new desktop I would only clean install if I had too. When I do, it takes me days to get my computer setup and running the way I want.

That's why I multi-boot all my Insider builds as native boot vhdx, keeping the primary OS of the PC firmly on the General Availability channel.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

So looks like I'm stuck on 23H2 for the time being. I switched to the RP channel and installed 24H2 twice now on this machine and the file explorer crashes constantly as soon as I right click any file or folder. I've booted it into safe mode and get the same result when I open the 24H2 file explorer. Tried some website suggestions with no success so reinstalled my beta 23H2 and will wait for a newer release of 24H2 to try another time.

I've had a few bad experiences with new Insider builds. Thankfully Macrium has always got my desktop back up and running again. I do use other backup programs just in case though.
