Hasleo Backup Suite v4 (just released) is exceptional for a FREE effort. v4 comes with Delta Restore (difference restoration for speed), a full GFS (Grandfather/Father/Son) Scheduling and Retention system, multi-core/thread backup/restoration speeds, BOOT Menu availability, UFD & ISO supported Recovery Media and many other features. I'm currently using it as a backup to mirror my Primary Macrium REFLECT backup scheme... both are using identical major features (except Reflect's MIG feature).

It's definitely a package that should be evaluated...
I have created a new thread about V4.

I wonder what happen with ReFS.. i never heard it became adopted so to speak.. it was talk about it.. But it seems no one uses it :-)
I use linux and therfore everyone thinks you like the terminal and the terminal graphic look.. i hate it.. it sucks.. its ugly... i love a nice design GUI :-)
and yeah... i have ended up in big discussions that almost created lynching atmosphere on Linux forum, when i say linux sucks on the GUI side and need to get IRL friends that works in art and design to learn what is a nice look and still workflow effective. *LOL*
Windows need to learn too.. They was better in the mid/late 00's.
ReFS is the default format when you create a DevDrive on Windows 11.

Okay.. i have around 10minutes of experience in windows11.. it was that time it took to make some printscreens to show i had cracked the windows installer to install on unsupported hardware just days after the release of 11ISO.. I made a swedish how to guide..
For me I'm skipping regular win10/11 home/pro as i hate rolling releases in all OS's.. so win2022server will become my desktop OS as Win10/11LTSC is impossible to get hold of.. But server does the same job as an LTSC :-)

My Free solution for System imaging backups, that is as good or even better then old Norton Ghost Is: Clonezilla...... It works on everything and even on filesystem that isn't supported and encrypted disks, as it has sector by sector cloning as last resource if the file system isn't supported.

For personal data backup i use: Freefilesync.. This works on Windows, Linux and Mac-OS...... and for me that uses both Linux and Windows, i love to have the same Programs/software on every system.. That way i dont need to keep up with functions and updates of several different software and that they work in different ways and so on and on...
3 OS's = 1 software That is the way to go in life.
Any tips on how to backup to an encrypted external HD? I have a Veracrypt volume. Not certain how to decrypt the volume in boot mode where, if I understand correctly, Clonezilla needs to be deployed.

I also use Veracrypt both disk and containers.
Yeah Clonzilla can only clone inactive disks.. and is run in a Linux environment so when on windows, you have two options.. Boot in to the live USB.. OR.. set up a VM with Live-clonezilla or any Linux distro and clonezilla.. But when running in a VM you can't backup the system disk.. But as you talked about working with external drives.. Then a VM should work.. I have not tried that solution as i run linux as main system.

If you use Clonzilla to backup encrypted disk like Veracrypt that is shown as "Raw" Then a sector by sector cloning is needed if you dont want to decrypt the disk.. Just keep in mind if the disk is 2TB and stored information is only 100GB then the image will become 2TB in size when cloning sector by sector..
a nice workaround is to make containers on that data you want to backup.. So if you have 100GB of information on the 2TB disk.. Make an encrypted container of 110GB that you put the 100GB data in.. then you backup the container file. :-)

I'm on my second cup of coffee, so i have not totally woken up yet. *lol*

Agree. I'm not worth a nickel until I've had my third morning cup.

But then, it's "no more coffee" for me for the rest of the day. Not even decaf. Old folks respond strongly to their caffeine.

*lol*
This is very useful, thank you!

Question for any Hasleo users out there: Can a Hasleo backup file be mounted as a virtual disk as you are able to do with Macrium Reflect? I have two commercial versions of Macrium Reflect Home (version 8) but seriously thinking of replacing them with Hasleo since it seems to get good reviews. Not happy with Macrium's subscription model.

Sure thing - select file from restore and select File Mode.

It is a bit more basic than Reflect but does the job - you have to use the gui to copy files etc. unlike Reflect where once you have mounted drive, you can use File Explorer.

Haselo Backup Suite does not offer Virtual Drive Mounting.
....the current version does not support it. This feature requires us to write a virtual disk driver, however we currently have no way to purchase Microsoft code and driver signing certificates.
