My password manager works just as well on my phone as on my computer.

I knew that was comin!

At the outset, it was actually a matter of transferring one set of credentials from the PC to my phone into a local only encrypted notepad app.
No intention or capability of using it as a login tool.

Just out of curiosity, do you browse all kinds of sites on your phone? Cuz I can't stand browsing on a 6" screen!

When I'm away from home for a short period without my computer, yes, I browse on my phone. I have a 7" screen that is quite nice to work with. And I use Microsoft Edge on my phone as well as on my computers, so using Edge works the same on all devices.

RoboForm lets you choose which special characters to choose from.


I have it set to use easily recognisable characters. If you find it hard to read a password, use CTRL and + to temporarily zoom in. Then CTRL and zero to set zoom back to normal.

That depends on the quality of your eyes.
Even with a good pair of spectacles I don't like to browse on any smartphone at all!
But as I'm already somewhat older I don't have to complain about it, glad I can manage to browse on normal monitors.

My password manager is a XLSX document with one special password to open and many systematically chosen passwords in a list. Combinations of a placename in the world and a number of the railway or busline it belongs to + a special character). Makes it easy to fill in by typing the password. Every site (or webshop) I am registered to has an unique password.

For webshops I save the data as well in a separate (password protected) pdf that I can easily open. Of course the pdf files are situated in the folder where the data of the webshop are stored, such as order confirmations.

The question was, "Which is your preferred password manager software?"

Many have their own ad-hoc systems, but please discuss them in your own thread!

BTW, Excel is not a password manager.

I made my own password manager. Is it forbidden to tell here how I did that?

Maybe it can help someone else to decide what he can use for that purpose.

I'm trying to find which commercial password managers are most used by forum members and spreadsheets and pencil and paper don't count.

That's a different view from how I saw it.
As I see it threads don't belong to just one person, but should serve all members to get an impression what the possibilities are for a certain 'how to do it'. Hijacking a thread is completely different from telling how it can be done alternatively.

PS. In your startpost I see nothing like it has to be 'commercial' software!

Oh come off it! It was a poll and the answers were all commercial programs.

Spend some time formulating a really good poll and see how annoying it is when people go completely off topic.

Why not start your own thread and include your program and the philosophy behind it. Could start an interesting discussion.

There is no end date. I chose not to set one. I can't stop you discussing related things. But why not create a poll or wait for Kees to start one?

I don't feel the slightest need for starting a poll myself.

That's the last thing I'm saying about this, because now this is growing off-topic more and more and that's not what you would want.

I did not intend to disturb your topic and never had any intension to hijack it. It was my severe interpretation I could post an answer that was reporting how my password storage took place.

So I am deeply sorry if I hurt your feelings about me giving another suggestion from what you (appearantly) meant subject of the topic should be about. I misinterpreted your startpost but it's not worth discussing this anymore! So please no more reproaches*) for me, back to what you would like the topic to be about.
