Why are search engines so bad - This answer is the OPPOSITE of what I wanted

Clear question from me (solved now by the way) -- I want to hide user list when logging on to Windows (server or whatever)

Yet the stupid search engine gives me a solution on how to DISPLAY the wretched list.

This type of stuff seems to occur with more monotonous regularity these days too. Don't the search engines's algorithms actually read what the query wants !!

This is very frustrating. I have too searched for something and the results where not only the opposite, but even irrelevant to what I wanted. Unless you know the exact keywords, you cannot find what you want. If I wanted the exact keywords, most likely I would also know how to do it! I wouldn't have to Google it!

The problem is most people either put to open search parameters and get buried under irrelevant hits, or go to other etreme and totally constrain the search to the point you get no hits.

Try asking "usb cable usbc male usba female"

Chances are it will find loads of opposites as well i e. usbc female and usbc male.

That is because search engines are literal and just searches for posts with every word but does not care about order.

It does require a bit of skill framing the questions at the right level (google fu).

So best way is to initially frame question a bit loosely so you get hits that you can work out key parameters to ask more precisely.

At least phrase the query as a question!

I believe it’s a matter of trying different search phrases. But I searched the exact same phrase in Google, it was the second hit.
