I was copying about 2 Tb of archived documents from an external USB HDD to my new SSD in a Dell Precision Tower 7865 using GSRichCopy360. The PC is on an UPS and there were no blackouts/brownouts last night. I had set all Win11 power options to NEVER and Window Updates were set to off. Woke up this morning and discovered something caused a system reboot shutting down the copy software and bringing me to the Win11 log-in screen asking for my Pin. Richcopy was only about 20% done. I opened Event Viewer and no critical errors. Lots of warning errors most related to cloud activity but I wasn't copying anything to or from cloud. C RichCopy has a log which I had set to "practical" but it basically had no information other than a system shutdown event had occurred.

Could someone advise what/where I should be looking for in the event viewer that could give me a clue as to what triggered the reboot?

Since yesterday was Patch Tuesday your computer may have gotten an update from Microsoft, 2 of mine did and now are at Version 24H2 Build 26100.4349, one I'm on now is working on it.

Perhaps your SSD got to hot. Copying that amount of files is causing your SSD to get very hot. So do the same and use CrystalDiskInfo to see what the temps are for your SSD. If to hot it could cause a shutdown...

I have all updates turned off and paused for 1 week BUT your right, my PC was updated by MS sometime in the early morning. Where else do I go to make sure no updates come through during long periods of file copying/cloning?

Might be better to monitor all the temperatures with HWiNFO.
I use CrystalDiskInfo and after the first 4 hours of copying (before I went to bed), the fans keep those SSD's nice and cool around 35C.

Before I attached a NAS drive to my Router for storage/archiving and needing to copy large amounts of data I would disconnect from the Internet to prevent interruption. Long ago Microsoft had announced some updates would be forced, unstoppable, and usually no notice.

You can check Windows Updates first before a long copy. If any are downloading or have already been downloaded, do the updates and reboot first. If nothing is downloading or already downloaded, disconnect from the Internet and then start your copy.

Great advice and simple solution. TairikuOkami also pointed me in right direction. I did not have "notify me..." checked after updates before restarting, so the update went through during my allowed time period outside of 8a-5p. Thanks to all for the quick replies.

But could be the temperature of something else like CPU, ram, etc.
Might even be voltages getting out of wack.
HWiNFO displays and monitors all of these at the same time.
