Why do Dell owners have so many problems?

I think it's because DELL and MS are fighting with each other to see who runs the show.
I'm not sure anyone but DELL is big enough to even attempt that.

They're feuding.

Dell ships many of its laptops with RAID On enabled by default because it activates Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST), which provides broader compatibility and certain legacy or advanced features that AHCI alone cannot. It is not because the system is actually using RAID. The setting is mostly about the storage controller mode, not about combining drives.

I have a 2TB SSD, although they aren't RAID as single SSD's your laptop's BIOS is likely set to "RAID On" mode by default for the storage controller, which is a standard Dell setting.

I've read that Dell format single disks as RAID.

Lenovo and HP ship more PCs than Dell. Dell hasn't been #1 for quite some time now.

Gee, do you think that has something to do with MS's recent screw-up with their latest updates that only affected Dells? They did issue a fix but I haven't tried it yet. Probably later on today or tomorrow

Actually it's in the BIOS setting which can be changed. The SSD/HDD is formatted in NTFS as is usual standard.

For PCs, I'd wager if the forum was able to provide a "study", there are as many threads on custom built PCs as all the big 3 OEMs combined. I'd also wager we don't see any more threads about Dell PCs than any other OEM on average..

As far as laptops, I think they would have to be looked at differently because we see so many complaints around power/sleep with laptops that do not exist on most PCs because PCs do not use modern standby. @Try3 and I both know what a nightmare modern standby caused early on. Heck, it was Denis's own testing that helped the rest of us figure it out.
At first there appeared to be more Dells being sold with modern standby issues because it seemed more were being built using it. But now on average I'd bet it's evened out.

JMO. No data available. Just what I've observed from the too many hours I spend on this forum.

Not fanbois. Computers are no different than appliances, cars, or anything else. Folks tend to buy brands again that have served them well and tend to pass along their experiences with a certain brand to others.

Oh lighten up! I did indicate that my post was tongue in cheek.

All of the Desktops and Laptops here are Dell and always have been. Some of them we've had around here for in excess of 15 years. They're modular and are generally easier to repair on the rare occasion they need it. We see a lot of computers for repair in the shop and IMHO Dells are by far the most solid and reliable.

i have a 13" dell latitude 2017 (its in My Computers, system two)
purchased used with a dead'ish battery

i got a replacement battery from the company in China that make Dell laptop batteries, at half the price
max'ed out the ram 16GB and replaced the SSD for a 480GB SSD. both from my spares box.
total cost not a lot.

its running just fine, no issues. its well made very solid and will most likely outlive me.

i can only say as i find that Dell seem to make solid, middle of the road systems, that works for me.

But I read that Dells use propriety hardware, firmware and BIOS. Does that not mean that are not modular in the sense of being industry standard and therefore easier to repair? I am not trying to be argumentative, just curious.
