Solved Why is 26H2 replaced by another preview (29639.1000 (rs_prerelease)

After using 25H2 for some time, I suddenly found my laptop running on 26H2, after an update through the Dev channel. I was happy with that, it's the latest version, even though not final. Today, without warning, a new Preview appears on Windows Update. I chose not to install it, because I'm happy with 26H2. Nevertheless, I discover later that this shite is being installed even though I did not click on Download & Install, and now I'm stuck with it. 26H2 exists on my laptop, it is listed in the updates, but I cannot activate it again or uninstall the latest preview version I don't want. What can I do please to revert back to 26H2 without doing a clean install? Is it even possible? Thanks to all for your precious help.

It looks like you switched to the Experimental (Future Platforms) channel below somehow.


Normally, you would need to do a clean install to switch to a lower Insider channel, but you can check to see if you may have the option to roll back to the previous version of Windows like below first.

@Brink, thanks a lot, that worked perfectly. Now at least I'm back on 25H2. If I understood correctly, if I now check "Experimental" channel and "Windows 11, 25H2" in Advanced Options (see file attached) I should get 26H2 again, correct? After install I switch to "Beta" channel in order NOT to get another experimental preview, correct?

Unless going back to a previous version again brings me to 26H2 ...

If you select Experimental and Windows 11, version 25H2/26H2, you should get what was the Dev channel for 26H2 build 26300.9032.
