I am on Windows 11 Pro version 22H1 build 22621.1928. I just looked at the Network Adapters on Device Manager and was surprised to find MediaTex software. I have attached a screen print of the Network Adapters on my system. Is this the "normal" configuration? I expected to see Intel software as I am running an 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1195G7 @ 2.90GHz 2.92 GHz.

Thanks

You have an Intel CPU. The wifi adapter is a totally different plug in component on the motherboard. Although Intel does make several wifi adapters, HP did not choose to use an Intel wifi in your model and installed Mediatek wifi adapter instead. Therefore, it uses the Mediatek driver.
They probably did it to shave a few bucks off production costs.

Thank you for the prompt reply. And thanks for clearing that up. Yep, it's most likely all about saving a couple of dollars!

By the way, where in Texas are you located? I lived in San Antonio for about 21 years before moving to Memphis back in 1996.

Have a good Wednesday!

More often than not - they go for a component like above Mediatek Wi-Fi card - due to supply shortage. Price wise - it's not that big of a difference compared to Intel AX200 or Intel AX210 - tho, performance wise the Intel product seems to be a better choice (slightly higher speed but even more than that - it's more stable). Here's a practical comparison:

It's only around 20$ - so hey, if you have any stability issues - might be worth the upgrade. It's also worth to be added - that not all cards from Intel are equally potent - as it's the case with Intel AC 7xxx/8xxx/9xxx series. Quite cheap too - around 15$ or less - but performance wise even that Mediatek card can do better.

Your Pc comprises of different components from various vendors. Usually when the CPU is Intel based the chipset is also Intel based but it can also be AMD based. The LAN adapter can be Mediatek/Realtek/Broadcom or whatever vendor.
For example my PC has AMD cpu with AMD integrated graphics and Discrete nVidia Gpu.
As others said it's mainly to cut costs and make the pc more "budget friendly".

Thanks for all the replies folks. I learned some things from your responses. Guess I'll just stay with Mediatek unless problems arise.
