Wi-fi speeds plummeted with reboot of computer

I'm a little curious why you're not seeing faster speeds on the Downstream and Upstream w/ethernet? You say you've got Verizon FIOS 1 Gig service. I'm assuming that is symmetrical so should be 1g/1g. Due to the limitations of the 1g ethernet port you're going to be limited to around 960mb speeds. How are you testing speeds? If using a Browser based speed test those can be notoriously unreliable.

My suggestion is to go to the Microsoft Store and search for an App called "Speedtest by Ookla" App. Install that and use it to run any internet speed tests. It seems much more reliable. I'd be curious if your actual bandwidth from Verizon is off a bit.

Also @NavyLCDR above had a good suggestion to check your wifi connection. Verifying a 5G radio connect plus "Link" speed vs connecting to a 2.4 g radio.

Try fast.com in the browser for a speed test, I have 25Mbps and actually getting 26 & 27.

Also check if the Wireless/Wi-Fi adapter in the computer and the Router support 5G, older ones don't. I have a Dell Inspiron 15-5537 that has 802.11n and only 2G, can't access daughter's Router which is set by her ISP at 5G, mostly for streaming. I got a USB Dongle that will provide 802.11ax and 2G/5G for when I visit.

I don't know. It was after a reboot which makes me think update, but don't remember.

That does it is not a physical hardware problem. Does your router have a built in speed test function?

YES! That is using a Browser based speed test. Can be wildly unreliable.

Try this:

You should have allot more places to choose from.
Choose one from the list.

I live in Ottawa Canada and chose one from NY.

I have a cable 1Gig line and the speed from NY is just about the same as I would get from Rogers in Ottawa

Try it out and see if you get the same or better results.

According to Dell that PC has an Intel or Realtek Wi-Fi 6 2x2 Wireless Card.
That means a connection speed of 300 Mbps at 2.4 GHz, and 866 Mbps at 5 GHz.
Real world speeds would be ~150 Mbps at 2.4 GHz, and ~450 Mbps. So a total max of around ~600 Mbps.

Just to repeat the connection speed requested in posts #18 and #26 is needed and also the specs of your Wireless Access Point, local network.

Internet speeds and tests are not relevant, it is your WiFi local network.

Wow! TY for taking the tine and effort that it took. I dont even get to that stage. Something must be blocking. I just have a blank black screed and the circle with go. I have a content filter in place. Wonder if that is doing it. Does the app access the same site, speedtest.net?

If you can't get the app to work for some reason then, try it through the browser:

You can also change the server location from which you can test. Click on the Change Server
and on the next screen you should see a bevy of places from which to choose from in your
are OR just write the name of a city or state in the search box at the top and you get all the
servers from that area. Don't forget to click on the white Go logo in the middle of the page
and let the magic happen. BTW, I get the same speed from New York as I would from Ottawa.
The only difference would be the Ping which, would be important to anyone playing online games.

Also, can you upload or simply paste a screen shot of the app on your PC in your next post
so we can all see if we could help with getting it started for you.
