Hi,

Occasionally when I get time, scroll through the news under widgets, and if I find some interesting open to have a quick read.

All goes fine, but I start to get the feel the laptop is a bit bloated (possibly due to Edge cookies) and when I reboot after some days, I run CCleaner to clear cookies etc.

It displays Edge is running and have to force close it.

My assumption is that Edge is linked/synced to MSN etc. news.

Any expert thoughts, am I correct?

Any remedy for Edge to run on demand only and not automatically, since Brave is my default browser.

Go to Edge/Settings/System and Performance, and disable "Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed"

In 7 forums @ThrashZone , recommended a cleaner forgetting it's name that did a deep clean....If memory serves right:unsure:, started with T, a small but powerful utility/cleaner.

Hi, Is it safe to disable it on startup, since I don't use. Keeping it as it is has no impact on my laptop. Thanks.

Just experimented, that if I don't reboot after running CCleaner the 1st time, and keep browsing using Brave and after closing it and rerunning CC I don't face it. :confused:

Your screenshot shows that you have Startup Boost turned on. This preloads some of Edge at start up so that it's quicker to open when you need it. Turn off Startup Boost and CCleaner will no longer complain that Edge is running.

I use CCleaner a lot. Like you, I find it's the best way to clean up cookies across all my browsers in one go while letting me whitelist the few login cookies I want to keep.

Turning off Startup Boost is all that's needed to stop CCleaner having to close Edge for you. Turning it off in Edge will remove it from Startup apps in Task Manager, you don't need to do that yourself.

Can I disable OneDive in task manger on startup, since I don't use it or can disabling it affect the OS?

@Bree , disabling from task manager startup isn't enough, making registry changes is required too?
Secondly I tried disabling, got a message on search on reboot indexing is off turn it on?

OneDrive is linked to indexing too? :confused:

Yes. As your specs say you have Home you need to use the registry change in Option Two of this tutorial. a .reg file is provided.

When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Beta as native boot vhdx.
