Windows 11 Pro Version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.9445)
Hi -
I now have the option of updating to 26H2. Has anyone lost the use of some or all of their peripherals, like printers or scanners, with 26H2?

Thanks.

My scanner stopped working properly with the last several updates of 25H2, and it still doesn't work properly. I can no longer do multi-page scans.

Check Settings, Devices, Printers section. I am not at my computer right now, so I don't remember the exact wording. Check if Windows Protected Print mode is enabled and disable it. This will allow good old legacy printer drivers to install and work. Regarding the lack of advanced features, probably Windows Update replaced your official OEM printer drivers with generic ones with less features. Visit manufacturer support site and download the latest official model-specific printer drivers, if available, otherwise download the official Universal PCL6 drivers. Scanner drivers might be separately, make sure you also download and install these. For models with both TWAIN and WIA scanner drivers prefer the TWAIN drivers which usually have more features and provide better image quality.

No problems so far. My HP OfficeJet Pro 6975 AIO still works fine. I have a couple really old scanners that sill work OK with VueScan.

Now that you mentioned Vuescan, it doesn't support all scanner models. Download the trial version and check before buying. I would first try to find any 64-bit scanner drivers, even Vista 64-bit, and if I can't, then I would consider Vuescan. My very old Afga Snapscan 1212u flatbed scanner didn't have a 64-bit driver, but it works fine with Vuescan 64-bit.

Thanks, all. Thanks to MisterEd for mentioning VueScan. I have VueScan as well for my old Epson high-res scanner, so I hope it works, too. A while back, there was a Win update, and I lost my old monitor calibrator sensor, with no fix in sight, except buying a newer sensor. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed with 26H2!

I just checked, and my version of VueScan is apparently 64-bit, as it is in Program Files. Like I said, keeping fingers crossed.

I'm not a Vuescan user, but their website includes a means of searching for supported scanners.

Drivers are too complicated an issue for me to have a firm grasp on. I believe that some fairly old drivers carried over when Windows 10 was upgraded to 11. One possible sticking point is that some old drivers are incompatible with Core Isolation. (Even though Core Isolation was available in 10. Not commonly enabled, maybe.) They may not install, even if Core Isolation is disabled.

Generally Windows 7 64-bit or higher are compatible with Windows 11. Most of the times even Vista 64-bit drivers will work and in very rare cases even Windows XP x64 drivers can be forced via Device Manager (only for ethernet adapters and some other devices). So if there is any 64-bit driver for the device, no matter how old, I would try that first and then use Vuescan. As explained in my previous post if the installer doesn't work by running it in compatibility mode, you can try extracting the driver files in a folder and forcing the driver from Device Manager. Vuescan and other similar utilities is the last resort. This is mainly because the OEM scan utility often provides more features and better image quality than Vuescan.

I have an HP Photosmart D110 series printer, I think I bought in 2010 or 2012.It still scans and prints on two computers (shared). One of my computers was a Windows 10, now upgraded to Windows 11 running 26H2 26300.9550. I have had no problems with printing or scanning!

The Windows 10 64-bit driver should install fine on Windows 11.
