WIN 11 has no print selection only

WIN 11 PRO
If I select text and hit PRINT a window pops up with "MS Windows operating system - print". But it has no print selection only. I have WIN 11 Pro, it's always been like this from when I got the computer. Can this be fixed?

I'm using Wordpad. Here's a screenshot of my selected text, I then hit control - P and the print window pops up.

That's because Wordpad is a very simple app that does not (yet, who knows?) facilitate selection for printing.
You will have to use another app or copy the part that you want to be printed to a new Wordpad file.

@GerryPeters, what version of Windows do you have? Wordpad is deprecated and has been removed from Windows starting with 24H2. It is very old code and only supports a simple right-click context menu, one that doesn't include 'Print'. Ctrl+P is your only way to print selected text from Wordpad.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I must correct my answer, because I was confusing Wordpad with W11 Notepad. Reason: Differnce in language, misunderstanding.
And thus I did the test in Notepad, not in Wordpad. My apologies for the incorrect answer!

In Notepad it is not possible to print a selected text at all. What the possibilities in old Wordpad are, I can't test anymore, because it's not on any of the systems I use anymore. So please refer to the other answers.

Wordpad's one big advantage over Notepad is that it can open Rich Text Format files (.rtf). Without Wordpad an Office app is needed (MS Word, LibreOffice Writer, etc.).

For those on 24H2 and above who would like to continue using Wordpad it can be copied from almost any earlier version of Windows, anything from Windows 7 up to Window 11 23H2 will do.

You need to copy the entire contents of C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories to a folder of your choice and run it from there.

I like WordPad simply because it opens so fast when I double-click on an RTF. The default Win 11 program doesn't do this, so I manually installed Wordpad

C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories

WIN 11 - 25H2 26200.7171

Unless there's another fast open for RTF's. When I want to print text, I'll select it, hit Control-C, Control-A, Control-V, Control-P and print it. Most of the time I don't need to print a text section.
