Win 11 update broke stuff, can't roll back

I installed an update yesterday (KB5035853) to Win 11 23H2 and suddenly stuff is broken:
* Windows won't let me go to shell:appdata in Explorer
* Windows doesn't recognise my headset mic any more
There are probably other things I haven't discovered yet -- it's only been a few hours...

To fix the headset problem, I tried reinstalling the driver (latest Realtek, 6.0.9384.1), and when that didn't work, went to install the Realtek Audio Console, but MS store says "there was a problem at our end".

I went to Windows Update to roll back the update, but "Go back" is greyed out and says "This option is no longer available on this PC".

How the hell do I undo the damage the Microsoft's latest brainfart has done to my system?

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

The Go Back option is for a Feature Update. KB5035853 is only a cumulative update. You should be able to uninstall the KB5035853 update in Windows Update > Uninstall updates.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Beta as native boot vhdx.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 4GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus the Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds as a native boot .vhdx.

IF the uninstall of this update doesn't do the trick, Do you have any System Restore points
that you could use to go back a day or two?

Aha, Many thanks. I finally found that option in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.’

This is where daily updates using something like Macrium Reflect comes in handy.

I’m sure there would have been some type of a fix for issues you were facing. MS has flagged possible issues with that update. I’m sure it’ll get fixed. With luck.
