Solved Windows 11 22H2 full system freeze with no event logs or BSOD on new laptop

Just an update. HP has been kinda bad for us. They didn't have a replacement motherboard available until now. They will come tomorrow to replace one. I will update the outcome on this thread.

However, we did find a workaround to mitigate the issue a bit. We noticed if we do a cold boot and then restart the computer immediately after signing into Windows, the issue occurs much less. We also noticed that this issue is only occuring for those in our company that are using the HP provided Windows image. I would suggest everyone to reinstall a clean windows installation with minimal support software from HP.

Hopefully this helps mitigate the issue for others too.

Yeah, HP loves to add a lot of bloat into their images. If I setup a new computer and I find it is filled with a lot of tools that are not directly hardware related, I backup all drivers and check which support tools are important and then wipe the HDD clean and install a known clean Windows image. Finally I add back the tools that may be important for that specific computer. Nothing more, nothing less.

I would also consider turning off Fast Startup for now as that can cause issues.

Just to wrap this issue up for anyone else that experiences the same issue on this laptop, it seems it's a hardware fault and not software and that I'm not the only one.

HP are replacing my laptop after not being able to source a new motherboard so I suspect they know there is a bigger issue than just my system now. Hopefully they have fixed whatever the issue is.

Hey @JimboJames

I presume you haven't had issues with the new PC? My colleague has been looking into this issue for a couple of months now and we have isolated the issue to most likely the Samsung NVME. Computers with a Western Digital NVME don't seem to have this issue.

So I have this exact problem and I know I'm coming in late to the party but this is why: All of these are great answers but not in my case. I have a packaged Dell desktop, all components have repeatedly tested ok, all temperatures appear to be within range and my NVME is a Western Digital. The shame is it has been an excellent machine but if I can’t rely on it it’s off to the scrap heap. I did want to mention that these events, no log and no BSOD, are almost always hardware.
