The build number is the build number which is part of an Major version.

Each build can have multiple revisions.

Every time each build is revised through updates, the revision number of that build change.

And not every update is an revision.

Is an revision when the update change files that are part of the core of that build.

Because is need to fix something which is broken in that build or because security.

But if the update for example is an servicing stack update not change the revision number.

IMO - A simple way to look at it is: -
I have Windows 10 with the latest updates, or
I have Windows 11 RTM with the latest updates, or
I have Windows 11 Insider Dev with latest updates, or
I have Windows 11 Insider Beta with the latest updates

Well, I am sure some will shoot me down in flames but it is just my two bobs worth and it works for me explaining it to the lay person

If you want to use the same terminology as Microsoft for each of the parts of the OS name, then the correct Microsoft syntax is: Platform <major>.<minor>.<build>.<revision> as in: Windows 11 10.0.22000.708.

The first two numbers tell you the Version of Windows Platform you are using. For all releases of both Windows 10 and 11 the Major/ Minor Version number is always the same: 10.0. It is 6.3 for Windows 8.1, 6.1 for Windows 7. The Version is followed by numbers for the Build and the Update Build Revision (UBR). Together they are what Winver and Microsoft's Windows Update History documentation refer to as the OS Build, Most people just say 'build' when referring to the OS Build in their posts.

Microsoft's individual names for each part of the <major>.<minor>.<build>.<revision> number can clearly be seen in the registry screenshots in post #181. The first two are 'versions', the last two are 'builds'.

@Bree I try to simplify things so that those who read understand.

I do not use Microsoft terminology.

I use the terminology as simply as I can to make myself understood.

And I also have against me the fact that English is not my native language :wink:

Everything I write can be easily verified on the Microsoft websites or other tech sites.

It is not a copy and paste from Microsoft sites or tech sites it doesn't follow the same order.

Is my words simplified as much as I can.

But all the essential information on the subject is there.

21H2 = 22000.708
22H1 = No Build
22H2= 22621.1

The Problem is Microsoft can't be consistent with anything. They changed things in the middle and not at the beginning. I don't watch any thread but I am done with this one. Now after saying that Windows 10 will be The last Release, they came up with Windows 11. Then there may or may not be a Windows 12. This is all on the People in Redmond. I happen to like Windows 11 , but If There is a Windows 12, I will wait till the Final Release to try it.

Microsoft representatives never said that Windows 10 would be the last version of Windows—not really. This thread is just getting rediculous - UUPDUMP is 100% perfectly legal - and installs using isos from UUPDUMP will request activation in the normal way if you aren't entitled to a W10 / W11 license -- absolutely no sort of any piracy there, and you don't have to have ever been a member of any Windows insider program.

The "Flat Earthers " probably have more logic than some of the sentiments expressed in this thread,

Maybe but nobody has ever managed to find a single officially recorded example of MS ever stating this.

I guess it was in MS's interest to let the myth perpetuate whilst it suited them, but also meant they were not (morally) obligated to stick to W10 in future).

And in my opinion, MS could have perpetually updated Windows 10 and no one would have been the wiser.

Although I use Windows 11 in my daily work, and complained mightily when it first came out, I'm used to it now and it's not so bad. Except for the fact that I really don't like the Start Menu and Taskbar! I've gotten used to the context menu after a fashion.

You could look into Start11 from Stardock -- that's what I use. But Open-Shell and 8GadgetPack still work and are both free. There is also the paid product StartAllBack for Win11 -- which I have not used but some folks like it the best.

Since I use this computer for creating tutorials for my students, I can't put those things on yet.

I would invariably put in something they wouldn't understand.

and the most certain is when 22621 becomes public, come with updates "22621.xxx..."

And, you would be wrong. I just upgraded a laptop using the ISO file for 22621.1, I left it connected to the internet for the upgrade so that it would fetch updates during the upgrade. The version that I have on the laptop now is 22621.4. Microsoft updated the 22621.1 to 22621.4 during the upgrade process even though the laptop is not in the insider program.
