Whispers and murmurs about Windows 11 22H2 (codenamed Sun Valley 2) reaching release to manufacturing (RTM) status soon have been doing the rounds for a while now, with a report suggesting that it is happening this month itself. Another more recent report claimed that the latest Beta Channel build 22621 was the RTM candidate, with the sign-off on May 20, which is just under a week away.

Today, famed leakster and Twitter user WalkingCat has revealed the Windows 11 22H2 RTM date and it is just a few days after the May 20 signing-off. According to WalkingCat, Microsoft will be signing 22H2 or Sun Valley 2 (SV2) on May 24. However, it wasn't revealed which Windows 11 build was the RTM candidate and so for now, the most likely candidate seems to be build 22621 as suggested by yesterday's report.

There will be no 22H1 release. Windows now has new feature releases only once per year. It is no longer on a twice yearly schedule.

Follow-up to my post from a few minutes ago:

While there will be no official 22H1 release, Microsoft does on occasion release a refresh build. On MSDN, Microsoft just released Windows 11 21H2, May 2022 Refresh. For those without an MSDN subscription, it's possible that in the next few days Microsoft MAY possibly release this refresh to the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool, but I cannot guarantee that this will happen. I'm merely speculating because that is what Microsoft has done in the past.


Note that the refresh is simply the original release with all the latest updates injected or "slipstreamed" in. If you have interest in doing this, I can provide some simple instructions and tools to perform this yourself, but I'm not going to expend the effort to do this unless someone tells me that they want to do this :-).

Currently, the latest refresh available on the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool is the November 2021 build. Win 11 was released October 2021 and pretty quickly followed up by the November refresh.

I understand all that -- and I have an ISO of build 22000.675 that I made using UUPDump. But, I have been waiting to see if a later build becomes available as 22000.706 is already out as an Insider build.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. First, the date is only a rumor. But even if true, it's usually several months after the code is finalized before it ever sees official release status. For the last several versions of Windows 10, as an example, there were several months of monthly patch Tuesday updates before it was officially available to the public.

But who knows, Microsoft can change what they are doing with no previous notice. I give up trying to figure out their logic :)

Follow-up.

What we know: 22H2 is in the can, it's done and the official name is 22H2.

What we don't know: How long before it becomes available via public tools such as the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool. In the past, as I noted in post #52, that lag is typically several months. But you can grab the ISO and install it now. All of my systems are already on that build :)

Sorry - I was not particularly clear - RTM will be a version of the Beta build - possibly 22621.1 at present but that is designated 22H2.

In order to qualify as 22H2, it has to be released July 1st or later. Don't you just love MS consistency LOL.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

Signing off as RTM and the public release are two different things. MS may well have signed 22621 off as RTM today, but still not plan to let it out of Insider Preview until after 1st July.

I can download the 22621 version, but not in my language.

I can use language pack in this version, but is not the same.

First is not fully translated.

shortcuts are diferent, for example: select all is "ctrl+a", even with language pack.

In my native language, "Final version" or RTM, select all is "ctrl+t".

among other differences.
