Windows 11 Home Version 23H2 64-bit OS
On my old windows 7 PC (still here) I was running Office 2007 purchased years ago, but I only use and need Word and Excel. When I bought my new Laptop with windows 11, it had a small version or word and excel, but after trying Microsoft 365 and finding it a disaster, I uninstalled it but it also took off my word and excel.

Not too bothered, but after trying Microsoft 365 and finding so many problems that I uninstalled it, the uninstall also removed my word and excel. I found that office 2007 will not work with windows 11 but the next best thing would be office 2021.

So, looking for Office 2021, I find prices from £20 to £200 or more ..................... what is this? If I cant buy a disc, I am happy with a download but so confused with the huge variation in prices. Any help would be appreciated, but I want nothing to do with 365 as the problems at my old age I can do without.

Are you positive Office 2007 is incompatible?

2010 is said to be compatible.

Office Home and Student seems to be consistently above 100 dollars if you stick with known reliable sources. You takes your chances at the lower price levels.

I do see a lot of complaints about downloading and activation, regardless of source.

Office 2007 will run in Windows 11. It is within the terms of the EULA to install it on a second portable device.

But if you'd like something more modern, then look at the free Open Source LibreOffice. If you'd like to try it out there's a Portable Apps version that requires no install.

It all depends on the site. Some sites that sell keys for Office 2021 for prices like £20, sell keys that work (If you use them immediately) and Microsoft will accept the keys. These keys have various names “Scrap Keys” is one.

The thing is though, you’re more than likely to find that if you ever have to reinstall Windows 11, after also loading Office 2021 and trying to activate it with that key, it often most likely will get rejected.

Apparently, what you need to search for is a Microsoft Office Pro 2021 ‘Bind Key’” which apparently binds the key permanently to your MS account. I have never bought one but apparently these can also be found cheap.

I am just a messenger and take no responsibility for any purchase you may make. However I hope you get your issue sorted.

But as Bree said, Bree and others that I have read on this forum believe that 2007 can run, or have Microsoft Office 2007 running on Windows 11

Any activation issues or troubleshooting required?

No more complicated than installing/activating recent versions of Office?
I don't have a key, so I couldn't try activating, I just skipped entering a key. Office 2007 has a trial period before activation is insisted on, so it was sufficient to test that it worked in Windows 11. No complications for installing it, as easy as any other version of office.

I'm not sure what you really disliked about Office365, but it's more or less the same as the new version of Office, so Office 2021 could likely cause you same issues that you had with Office365.

office 2007 will not work with windows 11
Mine does.
I have it on two Windows 11 computers and have not had any problems with it at all.
- No installation problems
- No activation problems
- No operating problems

Before reinstalling it, do make sure you have removed all other MSOffices such as those you mention.
Uninstall Office from a PC - MSSupport
Manually uninstall Office apps - OfficeSupport
Then check in Settings, Apps lists that you have uninstalled every version of Office before then trying to re-install Office 2007.

Those replies are appreciated and surprising. Microsoft's own site states that versions of office before 2013 will not be supported by windows 11, so I assumed that my version of 2007 from 2010 would not work. I also saw several other statements saying the same.

As some replies say they are using 2007 on windows 11 seems that Microsoft are telling 'porkies' UNLESS the 2007 will work but has no Microsoft support if things go wrong.

Anyway, it occurs to me that to get some support if needed would be a benefit, even though I have only asked for help shortly after buying 2007 when I was stumped with the operation of excel.

As mentioned I only need Excel and Word, without which I would not be able to access my previous records of these, so to have support if needed, is a low cost version of Office 2019 or 2021 the best solution I wonder. I am NOT very technical and at my mid 80's dont want to get into technical areas

Yes. Office working with Windows 11 and Office being supported by Microsoft when used with Windows 11 are two different things.

    …still on a horse.
I've tested Office 2007 (32 bit), 2010 (64 bit), 2013, 2016, 2019, 2021 on Win 11 pro (canary edition).

The only version I had problems with was Office 2013. (I ran these individually --I.e only 1 version of office installed at a time).
OK --tested on VM's - easy simply to clone a VM and install office without the bother of uninstalling and re-installing a different version.

They all ran except I did have some problems with Office 2013 and EXCEL. If you don't need all the bells and whistles Office 2010 is still a good "go-er" and you can get copies for around €6.00 or equiv in your local currency.

Rember though EOL releases get no security or updates but Office isn't really much of a security problem if you follow the usual rules of updating the OS security -- Windows defender and avoid scams and use safe emailing.

cheers

Microsoft's own site states that versions of office before 2013 will not be supported by windows 11
but has no Microsoft support if things go wrong
Yes, that's all it means.

to get some support if needed would be a benefit
The best support you can get is
- Windows 11 issues - This forum
- Office issues - the TenForums MSOffice section [Because ElevenForum does not yet have an MSOffice section].

As mentioned I only need Excel and Word, without which I would not be able to access my previous records of these
Since you already have Office 2007, I suggest you continue using that.

But if you want a more modern office suite, consider:
LibreOffice is pretty similar to old versions of MSOffice - see their sample screenshots.
LibreOffice - LibreOffice.Org
LibreOffice Portable - LibreOffice.Org
LibreOffice grew out of OpenOffice and is now said to be the better supported & more frequently updated one.

Mal,

Oh, and welcome to ElevenForum.

It's really worth making time to browse through the ElevenForum Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every ElevenForum page [within the Tutorials dropdown list].
- At the foot of the ElevenForum Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
- I download a new copy each month.
- By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
- ElevenForum tutorials are also listed at Tutorials and there's a shortcut to that at the top of every page.

You can search ElevenForum using the search box in the top-right corner of all ElevenForum webpages or using Advanced Search - ElevenForum
- You can also search ElevenForum threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:elevenforum.com after your search term. For example,
Taskbar setup site:elevenforum.com
- [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of ElevenForum webpages does automatically]

For MSOffice problems search in and, if necessary, create threads in the TenForums MSOffice section [ElevenForum does not have one].

I have a student version of Office 2007 installed and runs well on a win 11 pro PC.
I also have the keys, and it activates fine, and I know it can be installed on more than one PC, I had thought more than 2 PC's
I can't recall exactly though. If you install it on too many PC's you get a warning. then you uninstall it, it takes a short while, but it works again on the other PC's it was installed on before.

Mentions 3 concurrent instances of student office 2007, which jibes with my recollection from years ago.
And it seems to free up activation for me from what I recall, but is not instant,

2007 Home and Student allows install on up to 3 computers at the same time. Home and Business and Pro allow install on up to 2 computers at the same time. If you have not exceeded that count already MS may let you sneak in. If you have "used up" you concurrent install count you will probably have a problem. While you do have to uninstall from the old computer to transfer to a new computer to comply with license terms, unfortunately the uninstall process has NEVER, not even now, communicated with the activation system. So, you may KNOW that have "freed up" an install count, but MS won't know. So the activation system will give you a "too many" activations type message. The usual solution is to do a phone activation and talk to a service rep to get them to reset the flag to allow your activation to complete. But that no longer works. As soon as they know you are dealing with 2007 the provide no more help.

i think I have it installed on only 2 PC, a desktop and a laptop. SO I want to install office 2007 on my new old Precision 7530.

Here it is on my Asus q525u running win 11. I don't see where the activation screen is for word 2007, but I know it exists.
Anyone know how to show that? It's been a long time since I looked for that. Hit ? (HELP) on far right and it brings up this message.

I saved the install off the CDROM and the install keys too.

Your licence terms are on your computer and can be seen & copied from
Word, Options, Resources, About, View the Microsoft Software Licence Terms.
You are allowed to uninstall from one computer then install on another every 90 days unless a hardware fault forces you into a fresh installation sooner than that.
See section 14 - Reassign to another device

I've seen other people say they persisted during the telephone conversation with MS and got their licensing problem sorted out. I've never had to go further than automated phone activation.
