Windows 11 and title bar font

I recently upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 24H2.

In Windows 10, I used Winaero Tweaker to customize the font for "Window Title Bars". All title bars used the font I selected. It updates HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics.

In Windows 11, my title bar font is changed only in windows for Windows Explorer. If I open up another program (such as Firefox, or Computer Management in Control Panel), then the title bar doesn't use the font that I selected in Winaero Tweaker.

Is there a way in Windows 11 to customize the title bar font for the non-Windows Explorer windows?

Thanks for your help. I am using Winaero Tweaker to change the fonts. I just tried this test:

- Using Winaero Tweaker, I changed the font for "Window Title Bars" to be Lucida Handwriting.
- after rebooting, if I open up Windows Explorer, the titlebar font is using Lucida Handwriting, which is perfect, but if I open up "Computer Management" or "Windows Defender Firewall", the titlebar is not in that font.

Does that work for you? Or do you get different results?

I have changed my system font as well to something other than Segoe UI.

Is there a way to have "Computer Management" and other applications also use the font for "Window Title Bars" that I have chosen?

I tried Winaero Tweaker but it will not change the title bar font for Windows 11. The problem with Segoe font is that you can't tell the difference between a capital I and a lower case l as it is with this forum. The best fonts are Tahoma and Verdana.

Back in Windows 95 and 98 I was choosing Arial but it doesn't look good everywhere. In some areas it looks weird. Tahoma is a little better.

I can adjust the size, it is the style that is the problem and after looking at their sample, I have adjusted all those setting in the registry.

Try different fonts and sizes until you find the one you want. Don't forget to also try the bold version, as it might look better than the regular version. You can add more Arial font variants from Settings, Apps, Optional Features. You can also download free fonts such as Google Noto font family:

I have the font I want, but Windows is blocking and will not allow to change the title bar font.

Have you seen carefully all the font settings in Winaero Tweaker? I think it can change the fonts everywhere. Look again.

Has anyone been able to figure out a way to change the title bar font in Windows 11 in non-Explorer windows? Such as in "Computer Management" or "Windows Defender Firewall". For me, Explorer windows are using my customized font in the title bar, but not other applications.

First of all, welcome to the forum.

Windows 11, IMO has never been as good as previous version of windows when it comes to font rendering.
I'll bet no one here has messed with fonts more than me and I found that in certain areas of windows, fonts are hard coded. They WILL use whatever font you have selected as a system font, but for certain applications(file explorer, control panel, power user menu, and some more), you cannot mix different fonts across the different elements of the window, nor can you increase the font size in some areas except by tweaking scale, which will also mess up the size of everything else.

You can mess around in your registry all you want but certain elements in certain windows follow one thing only, whatever the system font is.

I recently tried to change the default user account image in an evaluation Windows Server 2025 installation in a virtual machine. The solution was to replace the actual file user.png with a custom image in the appropriate folder (same file name). Maybe you have to do the same. Replace the file segoeui.ttf in C:\Windows\Fonts folder with a custom font (same file name). Keep a copy of the original file as backup, just in case.

I tested that trick in my VirtualBox environment: tried to overwrite the font Segoe UI by the font Courier New.

So I made a copy of the font Courier New (filename cour.ttf) to a scratch area, changed its name into segoeui.ttf and copied that into the C:\Windows\Fonts folder of the Virtual machine.
Although the file is copied in the correct way, nothing changed (after system restart of course).
Tried to do it again, then I got the message: the font Courier New already exists, do you want to overwrite it?
When after that I looked at the properties of that file segoeui.ttf I got this:

So the filename of the font is not used for the real name of the font that is loaded when you overwrite the original.
The name of the font is included in the file itself.

One would need a font-editing program to change that.
There are many (partly freeware) programs that you can use for that, but it is not as simple as just 'overwriting' the file!
I did not test that. It won't be very difficult, but it's just an extra step.

But the idea is good!
