Windows 11 back to Windows 10

I just purchased a new HP laptop that came with Windows11 already installed. I really really really don't like windows11. Is there a way to revert or go back to windows10 when it was a factory install? I know with updates you had 10 days after activation to revert...is this possible with a new laptop that was factory installed? PLEASE HELP!!! I truly detest windows11

I doubt it since they installed Windows 11 more than likely and not Windows 10 and then upgraded. Someone might have an idea for how to get Windows 10 on the system instead of 11. Perhaps the license for 11 will work for 10. I don't know, though, so don't quote me on that.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to do a clean install. The Windows 11 key should work for Windows 10.

By the way. I'm with you on your hate of Windows 11.
It's the first Windows operating system that I truly hate and will not be installing it on any other computers apart from the one test machine that I installed it on. Windows 11 takes away more than it offers.

Please make free backup images and save images to another disk drive or the cloud.



These are trial and error steps for Windows 11 > Windows 10

Create a bootable Windows 10 iso:







If you have important files then perform a custom installation.

This will save important files to Windows.old.

Important files are then restored after Windows 10 iso installed.






If you do not have important files then perform a clean install.

Welcome to Eleven Forum

Your laptop has a Windows key embedded in its firmware. Microsoft make no distinction between Windows 10 or 11 in the key, they are all Windows 10/11 keys. The only distinction built into the key is whether it is for the Home or Pro edition. You could clean install Windows 10 on this PC, Setup will find the key in the firmware, uses it to choose the edition to install, and to activate it.

There are a couple of sensible steps to take first.

I would use Macrium Reflect Free to make a system image of the PC as it is now. That way you'd have the option to restore it to 'as received' later should you change your mind, want to sell it or pass it on to someone else.

Before doing a clean install it would be a good idea to make a backup of all the device drivers, in case you need to reinstall one or more after installing Windows 10.

In this link an OEM Windows 11 was downgraded to Windows 10 using a Windows 10 iso upgrade option.


I've not yet seen this confirmed in eleven forum.
