Hi everyone, I'm currently on Windows 10 21H1 on the Release Preview Insider channel. I'm thinking of joining the Beta channel to get Windows 11 builds. My laptop has all of the minimum requirements (more than 2 cores, 8 GB of RAM, TPM 2.0, UEFI Secure Boot, etc.) except for the CPU generation, it has a 6th Gen Intel Core i5. Has anyone tried installing on a PC with unsupported CPU Gen? Can it be done normally without registry edits? Does it run without issues? Thanks in advance for the answers.

Hi folks.

Installing now on an old SONY VAIO with PENTIUM IV processor (as a VM - obviously won't install otherwise). Heat of that CPU feels like a hot air blower --keeps my "Office" warm though !!! Can't believe how heavy that old lappy is and the power consumption.

However it does have HDMI video out (max 1920 X 1080) and a SATA connector where I changed the slow 2.5 inch spinner for an SSD -- no USB3 though - but this thing WILL work so "little round objects" to Ms who say you need mega new equipment to run this on.

You do need a decently configurable VM software system to be able to manipulate the "Virtual Bios and hardware" though and some config mechanism to change the CPU "Topography" via some decent "poodlefakery"so the Windows VM thinks it's running on more modern hardware !!!! .

The Sony VAIO doesn't have UEFI or a TPM but no probs with TPM emulation and a VM set up for secure boot .

I used the iso made from UUPDUMP for the Windows install.

If it actually works will post some screen images later.

I think about 20 of those SONY VAIO PENTIUM IV systems running alone will cause around a 10 deg C increase in the average temp of planet earth -- amazing to think that was normal in those days !!!

Pity though Sony abandoned laptops -- for its day those VAIO machines, nicely built, looked good and had great performance -- but were they heavy !! -- really "luggable" was the correct expression.

Cheers

Yes! I'm running i5 Core 7200U (early 2017) which is not on Microsoft's white list. I qualify for everything else, just like you, and am running Win 11 with no problems at all. Been on my HP ENVY now for about a week with absolutely no problems at all. It even seems faster than 10.
So my answer to you is yes, it runs without issues and really don't see why Microsoft crossed this one off their list of incompatibles.
Runs like a champ!
