Windows 11 Cleaning

I learned all about the registry when i took my Malware schooling through a well known University. So i do not use Registry cleaners and when i clean a clients computer i do it all by my knowledge, no guessing when it comes to the registry !!

To each his/her own.

Only expressing my experience.

I run an older version of CCleaner Portable (5.79.8704). Never one time over the years has it given me an issue. It has always performed as expected. Exceedingly well, for me.

And yes, I have, and continue to run 'Scan for issues' in the Reg cleaner. The only thing that it has ever found, was after the introduction of Edge Chromium, once in a rare blue moon, it will turn up a couple of entries (2) just following an Edge update. I allow it to clean them, and it does so without incident.

Full disclosure ~ I am still running Win10.

Full disclosure ~ I am still running Win10.
If, like me, you frequently run an app for a while to test it, then delete or remove it, you can end up with dozens of 'issues'. They mostly are references to files that no longer exist. This CCleaner scan on a Win10 machine has found 50. But they all 'non-issues', if the file is not there the registry entry just gets ignored. They do no harm so why bother cleaning them? I don't.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

Thank you, Bree.

I understand and agree. It's simply a result of me never doing so.

Errors like orphaned entries, duplicate keys and a fragmented registry might sound serious, but in reality they're unlikely to cause problems, unless they accumulate in great numbers. To avoid this, make sure you're using trusted, professional software because freeware and sloppily programmed applications are more liable to leave potentially dangerous remnants of their code on your computer.

I use PrivaZer - it is the best I have found and have been using it for years.
Welcome to Eleven Forum Ben.

Yes, I like it too. Used wisely it can do things many other tools can't.

Like any powerful tool, if used recklessly it can inflict serious damage. Unless you really know what you're doing and have made a backup system image, then it's best to avoid cleaning the registry with this or any other tool.

I run CCleaner v 5.78 and haven't had any issues on Win 7, 10 or 11.

I "only" run the Custom Clean and the Registry tools, and I'm very careful with the Registry tool.

Any other tools in CCleaner like Health Check, Driver updaters, vulnerability scan, etc... I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.
