Having tried the newest versions, and found them significantly worse with each new release, 22H2 is probably the last version I will ever use.

My test laptop (see 1st system specs) has an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU without SSE4.2. So it runs the last compatible version 23H2 and I don't care about EOL. As long as I can keep Windows Defender updated and I am careful what I do online, I can keep it another 15 years. Much better to run Windows 10 22H2 or Windows 11 23H2 than running Windows 7 SP1. Much better compatibility with modern apps and hardware. Until it is really obsolete for everyday use, I can keep it. Then I might install some casual games and give it to my son.

To be honest, I hope you're right, but I don't see any indication Microsoft is going to reverse course and suddenly start listening to consumers and respecting our privacy.

TIP: For a new Windows 11 installation reply NO to most questions at initial configuration (aka OOBE stage). This does half the job to protect your privacy. The other half is to create a LOCAL account (use your Microsoft account only for specific apps, not to login) and use Windows Shutup or similar to turn off more settings.
