Changes and Improvements Rolling out to Insiders​

[Lock screen] ​

  • We have updated the widgets experience for your lock screen, replacing what was previously referred to as “Weather and more.” You can add, remove and rearrange lock screen widgets such as Weather, Watchlist, Sports and more. We also provide suggested widgets on the lock screen to help you discover more widgets. Any widget that supports the small sizing option can be added. To customize your lock screen widgets, go to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen.
  • Note: We are beginning to roll these experiences out to Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel, so the experience isn’t available to all Insiders just yet as we plan to monitor feedback before pushing it out to everyone.

Fixes

[General]​

  • Fixed an issue which was leading to Visio freezing when interacting with an IME.
  • Fixed an issue in the latest Canary builds for Insiders with Arm64 PCs, leading to an error message when playing certain games saying “The game has crashed with error code 0x0”.
  • Fixed an issue where if you used your PC for a while without rebooting, explorer.exe might start crashing repeatedly.
  • Fixed an issue where after the latest updates, text might not render correctly when editing content within a multiline text box in certain apps.

Known issues​

[Start menu]​

  • Insiders with the new Start menu may experience it unexpectedly scrolling to the top.

[Power and Battery]​

  • We’re investigating reports that sleep and shutdown aren’t working correctly for some Insiders after the latest Canary builds.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel​

  • The builds we release to the Canary Channel represent the latest platform changes early in the development cycle and should not be seen as matched to any specific release of Windows and features and experiences included in these builds may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. Features may change over time, be removed, or replaced and never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
  • Many features in the Canary Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
  • Some features may show up in the Dev and Beta Channels first before showing up in the Canary Channel.
  • Some features in active development we preview with Windows Insiders may not be fully localized and localization will happen over time as features are finalized. As you see issues with localization in your language, please report those issues to us via Feedback Hub.
  • To get off the Canary Channel, a clean install of Windows 11 will be required. As a reminder – Insiders can’t switch to a channel that is receiving builds with lower build numbers without doing a clean installation of Windows 11 due to technical setup requirements.

It was a complete failure for me. The computer would not boot. I tried using Macrium and a Windows ISO I downloaded this morning but for what every reason I couldn't repair the boot partition. I'm in the process of doing a Macrium restore. Another problem I had was my Macrium boot disc wasn't being seen. I even made a new Macrium boot disk and got the same results. I had to use one that I made back in January of this year. The image just finished and my computer is up and running again.

Update: build 27982.1 is now installed. So far I haven't noticed any problems. I don't know why the first try turned out to be a disaster. It's now installed and running OK and that's what really matters.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

BTW did you try any of that Mainframe stuff I've been playing with --it's quite addictive -- actually Fortran and PL/1 plus a bit of REXX seem a lot more "intuitive" than weird C or C++ but I'm getting a bit old for programming now == Python just works. !!!
