Hi I've got an AMD A10 3500 CPU in my computer which is apparently fast enough and has enough cores in it but it's apparently not compatable as it's 3 years old hmmmmm.

My question is what would really happen if I installed windows 11 on my PC it says I won't get updates is this true????

Microsoft currently focusses on the fact that users will not be entitled to support with any problems and will not be entitled to receive updates if they install Windows 11 on non-compliant hardware. Obviously many updates can be manually downloaded and applied, but there is, obviously, no guarantee that they won't start to 'break' Windows and/or other functions if they are designed under the presumption that they will only be installed by users on fully compliant systems.

We have included more details below on our principles that guided us in establishing Windows 11 minimum system requirements.
Here are some insights from the data we gathered over the last couple months that affirmed our decision.

Reliability: Devices that do not meet the minimum system requirements had 52% more kernel mode crashes.
Devices that do meet the minimum system requirements had a 99.8% crash free experience.

Security: Windows 11 raises the baseline of Windows security by improving the security default configuration to combat
increasing cyber-attacks.
These requirements were informed based on trillions of signals from Microsoft’s threat intelligence as well as input from
leading security experts like the NSA, UK National Cyber Security Center and Canadian Centre for Cyber Security.
Additional details on the background and value of Windows 11 baseline are below.

Compatibility: People continue to increasingly use their PCs for video conferencing, productivity and gaming.
To ensure all Windows 11 devices can run a core set of applications to meet those needs, we set the minimum
system requirements to align with some of the most commonly used apps.

So far I made two failed attempts to upgrade my Intel Core-i7 3770 (third generation) from Windows 10 Pro to 11. The first attempt failed with the "Safe_boot stage" error message. I googled it and read that I have to upgrade my drivers. There are no any newer drivers, so I decided to disable some devices in Device Manager (audio, LAN, TV tuner card, SATA to PCI controller) and try again. The second attempt failed at the second boot stage. It seems Windows Setup tries to update some drivers despite I chose not to use Windows Update during setup and have most devices disabled. I now run dism command to repair any errors in Windows and also set the local group policy not to include drivers in updates. I am now at the third attempt. If that fails again, I will have to remove any peripherals and all expansion cards before trying again. I will let you know. At this point someone could ask why I don't just do a clean installation. The answer is that I have a lot of applications that would take too many hours to reinstall and configure. I will do a clean installation only as a last resort as dual-boot with my Windows 10 drive so I have a working system until I have installed everything in Windows 11.

spapakons, your post reminded me how I also failed on the first attempt with the "Safe_boot stage" error message. In my case, with a dual-boot Windows/Linux Mint system, the Win 11 install was confronted with the Grub boot loader used by Linux. I had been wondering how that would go. Anyway, I removed Linux Mint and Grub, tried again and this time the Win 11 install went through. I re-installed LM and it installed fine side-by-side with Win 11.

This desktop is I Core 2 Duo CPU E8400.

Hi,
That's why a win-10 system image is best to make on a removable hdd.

If ms starts kicking people off 11 then you can always restore the system image and what ever files you've accumulated on 11.

So no real reason not to try 11 unless you can't store a win-10 system image on spare hdd.

You might but if you make a backup system copy you can install 11 and see how it goes. Worst case.. roll back to 10 with the system backup.

I could not upgrade my Windows 10 installation to 11 no matter what I did. I even used the below code on a Command Prompt as Administrator to fix any system file errors, it didn't work. All my last attempts failed at the second boot stage. Since my Windows 10 installation is secure at my original SSD, I decided not to waste further time and do a clean installation instead. So I used my hybrid installation USB Flash drive and, at last, successfully installed Windows 11 on my main home computer. I will fill my 2nd computer specs later. To avoid losing my files I installed without format, so all my data are in the windows.old folder. I now install my applications a little at a time. If I need a fully working system in the mean time, I will just disconnect the Windows 11 SSD and connect my original SSD. All my previous drivers worked in Windows 11 without any issue. One weird glitch I saw was that in Edge there was only the Bing search engine! A Windows Update and restart later all search engines were there, so I could set the default to Google. If I have other news I will post again. Thank you all for trying to help.

Code to repair system files in Windows 10/11:

Code:
Dism.exe/online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
sfc/scannow
Dism/Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc/scannow
Running the last line you may see a message that you should restart first. Restart the computer, open a Command Prompt (aka Windows Terminal) as Administrator and execute last line again.

I know this is not very relevant, but I wouldn't like to start a new thread for a simple question... I have two screens on my main PC (see 2nd PC specs). I wanted to capture the whole screen of a window on my second screen with Snipping Tool. I know from Windows 10 that the "Fullscreen mode" captures both screens side-by-side and if I want to capture only the window on my second screen I have to select "Window mode". It seems this behavior is not the same for Windows 11 version. Either the "Fullscreen mode" or the "Window mode" capture both screens side-by-side. What am I doing wrong? Is this a known bug? Anyone else using Snipping tool can add on that? Also I prefer the Windows 10 interface of the tool, is there any way to change the interface to that of Windows 10?

Update: I discovered how to restore the old Snipping Tool. Just copy the file C:\Windows\System32\SnippingTool.exe from a PC running Windows 10 (or from windows.old folder if still available) and the C:\Windows\System32\EN-US\SnippingTool.exe.mui into the respective folders in Windows 11. The problem now is that Fullscreen and Window mode are functionally same. Any workaround? Thanks.

Crazy experiment:
I remember back in the 90's my first monitor was a 14" CRT VGA only. This means that the maximum resolution was 640x480 at 60Hz! With PowerStrip which was a custom resolution utility I could trick it into 720x576 (PAL standard) at 50Hz, but the image was too flickering for my eyes, so I did it just for the proof of concept and reverted to 640x480 60Hz. I worked with this monitor at this resolution in Windows 95, 98 and XP before I replaced it.

I was wondering how it would be to use Windows 11 in 640x480 60Hz, so I set this resolution at my second screen and took some screenshots. Of course everything in modern Windows is too large at this resolution so it would be really hard to use it, but I did it for experiment. The Windows 7 start button and start menu are a result of Open Shell which doesn't work in Windows 11 with the default button, you must change the button to make it work.
