Windows 11 issue in which saved accent marks aren't properly displayed.

I recently migrated from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Now all accent marks (Spanish, French, Italian, German, etc.) saved in Notepad (.txt) files are replaced with gobbledygook characters. A genealogy program is also no longer displaying foreign accent marks for names and surnames. Is there a patch for this issue?

If you download Notepad++ and open those files with it, are the files back to normal?
Also a good chance that it’s an installed language issue. I am not familiar with Windows language installs.

Nothing to do with migrating to Windows 11.
More to do with the use of Notepad.

When you do a Save As make sure the Encoding is UTF-8.
Right at the bottom next the Save button.
Also use a Unicode character set.

I'm using Consolas Font, Unicode character set, which I think is the default.

No idea about your other app, but the same principles may apply.

Thank you so much for all of the information that you have all shared! I also needed to disable the option for "Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8" for worldwide language support under Region > Administrative to get a genealogy program to properly display accent marks.
