windows 11 pc cannot connect to shared folders on windows 10 desktop

Windows Networking has always had something about the magic of Gandalf the wizard neded to fix itt way back from well before XP days. Doesn't solve the problem of course but Windows randomly seems to cause network glitches and whatever even on identical hardware where one computer just doesn't connect.

Workround:
I create links to my networked PCs on each Windows PC desktops as in create new shortcuts and enter \\PC-02, \\PC-03, \\PC-04 and so on works all the time for transferring files and such whereas networking only sometimes works or takes a long time for networked PCs to appear. This works for me with Win10, 11 and Mint Linux, no need for smb1.

Make sure both machines are setup the same, including workgroup names.

It's just strange. I spent an interesting few hours earlier this week restoring local PING capability among all nodes on my LAN. Turned out to be an seemingly unpredictable combination of:
1. private networks being reset to public
2. advanced sharing settings for Public Networks (the turn off password protection item, as others have mentioned) was telling
3. certain registry hacks to allow larger numbers of RDP connections (!) also played in

That's not one of the adjectives I've used. Sharing has always been a convoluted mess all the way back to the days of trying to share between XP and 7. When it works, it works fine, but when it doesn't...fagetaboutit.
