Windows 11 RTM/Non Insider

This thread is for those of us who installed the Windows 11 RTM (Oct 5th release), and any findings/issues thus far.

That said, I just did a clean install on my fully supported desktop listed in my system specs (system one). I created a USB install using the Media Creation Tool. The installation process took about 17 minutes from install process to getting to the desktop. Still installing programs and stuff, so I have a ways to go before things are settled.

That said, one of the things I notice right off the bat is Windows Explore seems to have a slight delay (almost a like microstutter) when opening app or files. Even opening Windows Explorer produces a slight stutter.

Another odd one is trying to move dialogue boxes or Windows seems to stutter, not work, and the mouse randomly moves as if someone else is controlling it.

Now I've seen these two issues reported on the Dev version (I'm running Dev build 22468.1000 on my 2017 Lenovo Laptop (i7-7600U)), but I've not had them. Odd I should see them now on the RTM version and on a fully qualified system.

Anyone else? What are your findings?

Could be anything but if you use a third party security suite, make sure you check regularly for a Win11 update for the security software, minor differences across an OS update can cause a slight stutter with checks

I've got one machine upgraded in production use right now. So far, I haven't noticed anything unusual or broken. I do NOT have the Explorer hesitation/stutter you mention (though I did see it on my X12 Tablet in a Dev Channel version last week, so I think I know whereof you speak). So far, so good on the X1 Extreme (2018/8th gen i7) ThinkPad I'm running Windows 11 on. Good thread and something I'll keep watching. Thanks for posting @Dru2.

Agree, could be anything... I'm just reporting what I'm experiencing with the RTM, where others reported the same issue(s) running the Dev channel. And where I didn't see the issue. But that's a different machine.

And the only security suite I use is Windows Security (Defender). That's it.

Yeah, I never saw the issue when running the insiders Dev build on my unsupported 2017 Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga X1 (i7-7600U). BTW both machines are listed in system specs - Dev channel for Lenovo laptop, RTM for main desktop.

I just discovered that Windows Media Player has a lot of new albums in it without album art and the files for one record are spread over more than one thumbnail. I realized quickly that they are from my F drive where I have recordings from vinyl; the E drive is where my MP3s ripped from CDs are so I don't know how this happened but it's one mess I'll have to fix.

Hi, I don't use Media player, but I do have hundreds of music files being played by JRiver Media Center, and all is good there - all the files and album art and still in place.

Just FYI, but from my experience in Windows 10 with Media Player, I've found the artwork to be hit or miss there, so...

I gave up on media player many years ago - shortly after finding MediaMonkey the great thing about it is, for those with extensive music collections, is the extremely powerful file/folder management features. These are available on the free version, and enhanced on the "gold" version - it will organise and tag folders as albums and add cover images automatically
It also has a lot of auto sort options so could also help with correcting any errors Due to Media Player

Dru, I'm running Windows 11 Build 22471 and have no stutter at all. When I right click on Start, then on File Explorer, it opens instantly, and everything I click on after that opens instantly.

I haven't had any hesitation or stuttering on anything File Explorer.

Thanks Wynona, but as noted I also said I didn't have the issue on the insider's build. Here we're talking about the non-insiders build.

Anyway, whatever the issue was seems to have sorted itself and the stuttering appears to be gone. All good thus far.

Oh, and as a reminder, this thread is for everyone running the RTM release to voice any issues they've noticed

MediaMonkey

JRiver Media Center is also a powerful media player that touts itself as an audiophile media player optimized for sound. Its capable of playing all sorts of audio files including DSD and HD tracks.

There is a trial version, but it is a paid program (now $60 bucks initially, upgrades $28).

Anyway, used Media Player, and it worked, but I prefer JRMC for home, and Plex for streaming music away from home.

I've always used Media Player as I find it a quick and dirty player, although having its problems from time to time. The problem I spoke of above turned out to be an easy fix which was to go through and delete many WAVE files but only from the album, not the computer as well. The problem occurred because for some reason Win 11 at first install was seeing my E: and F: drives as removable drives when they are actually on one Samsung 980 M.2 1 TB drive. All is good now.

I have had Media Monkey 5 Gold for some time having bought it because of album art problems in WMP but I've invested little time in the program because it is feature rich, and thus carries a high learning curve. Maybe someday I will take the time to learn it but little time, and too much to do. In the short term Media Player meets my needs.

I have to right click on a file or folder 2 to 3x for the window to stay open. I want the Show more options window to be permanent :)

After first getting to 11 desktop right clicks were doing that too
After restart it stopped thankfully I did the upgrade path though all new tpm/....requirements disabled.
