The best way to create Windows 11 Backup? Does Acronis Cyber Protect Home support Local Backup like Acronis True Image?

In 1 year, you will need to renew your subscription to continue using the product.

When your Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office subscription expires, all product functionality will be blocked until further subscription renewal, however, the backed up data is still accessible:
  • For 5 days after the subscription expires, you can continue making backups, including backups to Acronis Cloud storage (for Advanced and Premium subscriptions)
  • Within 30 days after the subscription expires you can restore data from Cloud Storage. Thirty days after subscription expiration the data in Acronis Cloud storage is destroyed.
  • Local backups remain available for restore.

You could also (like most of us), get Reflect 8 Free, here....

I would recommend Macrium Reflect v 8 Free / Home (for which you pay a one-off charge) edition.

I would recommend Macrium Reflect v 8 Free / Home (for which you pay a one-off charge) edition.

I agree 110% , Acronis has for years steadily become over bloated with needless modules , and their licensing and upgrade practices are shady at best. With Macrium you pay one price and you are good to go to the next major version ie: V7 --> V8, you get everything in between , and when you do upgrade , chances are you will get a steep reduction in price.

The whole Acronis versus Macroum debate is so tedious. Those that already use Acronis and swear by it and want to pay ad nauseam, that is up to them.

Hiwever recommending new users to pay for Acronis without acknowledging there are various free versions that generally meet peoples needs is not really being financially helpful.

Most users here recommend Macrium Reflect Free because it is free and aldo because it has a great track record AND no financial risk to user.

We never say use Home to new users unless users have requested a specific feature. We tell people of the benefits of paying and let users make their own mind up..

Don't think 11 is guilty. After yesterday joining the Insider program and getting 22509.1011, which did not work at all well for me (I mean the updated Insider Preview Build, not the joining; the former was bad on my 11-unsupported; the joining worked perfectly) I restored my yesterday-morning image without any problem. Restore took 1 min 33 secs. Perfect. No traces of Insider and all my custom stuff back.

No idea whether Ryzen has anything to do with your difficulty.

Macrium Free is great for just backing up a system but these days I simply use physical VHDX files ("Virtual Hard disks") with a Windows system of around 53 GB each separate Windows installation so have several Windows systems on the device. I can image the HDD and have automatically saved all of them each time. Saves running Macrium from within each Windows system to save that image.

Currently on the HDD I have 1X W2K22 Server, 1X WK19Server, 2X W10 Pro (1 current, 1 insider preview) 2XW11 (1 pro and 1 pro preview version).

Note by cloning the HDD / imaging it - it saves the entire disk image and gets round the problem of running Macrium individually -- especially in Server editions - for which you need a separate license. Note you can image the actual "Host Disk" from within Windows -- your Windows disk is still "C" but the entire HDD / SDD can be accessed as Volume "D" so imaging the disk is no problem.

Cheers
jimbo

I have Macruim Reflect running fine when making a system image. I can pick Hards or my Nas. Problem I have now when Macruim boots into recover mode it loses the Nas info to access. I am pulling my hair out on this.

@GrayOldman1

I have the same issue and it is because my ageing NAS needs SMB1 in order to be accessed, but SMB1 is not available in WinPE. You can only restore a system image using your rescue media and that uses WinPE. I get around this by copying the image file to a local drive prior to restore.

That is what I have been doing now. Copy file from the NAS to internal hard drive on the computer. Then I can restore the image.

Never had any issues recovering from MR v8 backups - works fine for both 'image' & 'file & folder' restores.

Hiwever recommending new users to pay for Acronis without acknowledging there are various free versions that generally meet peoples needs is not really being financially helpful.
I'm not aware of any of us Acronis users who've glossed over this fact. I certainly never did. The problem to me is many dismiss everything but Macrium. It is a good program, but it isn't the only imaging app out there. And yes, I also use Macrium but only for images, not backups. That's me.

    This is my backup system.
I have Macruim Reflect running fine when making a system image. I can pick Hards or my Nas. Problem I have now when Macruim boots into recover mode it loses the Nas info to access. I am pulling my hair out on this.
I have the same issue and it is because my ageing NAS needs SMB1 in order to be accessed, but SMB1 is not available in WinPE. You can only restore a system image using your rescue media and that uses WinPE. I get around this by copying the image file to a local drive prior to restore.
When creating your rescue media, click the Advanced button and enable Legacy SMB v1 support.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.
