If you watched the video it was said that co-pilot +150 new features will be released on 9.26.23. So if it comes out in October does it really make a difference? The Beta Build that I just got out of is 23H2. I am not really in to all of this AI as it can become dangerous if used in the wrong hands. I also find it strange that there is no 23H1? but then this is Microsoft.

Why is strange that there is no 23H1? Microsoft announced probably over a year ago that the cadence is now one new major release a year. This was very public and very much discussed here and everywhere. This should be no surprise to anyone.

The point is that there are 2 major releases upcoming. One on Sep 26, and another in what we presume to be October. I'm just trying to understand why 2 releases and not a single 23H2 release.

Then why have a 23H2. Logic would dictate that there should have been a 23H1. Microsoft is Best at confusing their users. That being said I am now looking for a NUC to run Linux on.

There are a bunch of features that are missing from this update, though. We thought this would be Microsoft’s larger 23H2 update dropping on September 26th, but that’s coming a little later and will include some even bigger changes to Windows 11. A new volume mixer is on the way, alongside native RAR and 7-zip support, Dynamic Lighting for controlling RGB accessories, and even app labels and ungrouping for the Windows 11 taskbar.

Microsoft hasn’t confirmed when it will ship the changes in the 23H2 update, so you’ll need to wait a little longer for that update to drop.

It is 22H2. Since it is a regular update, everybody will get it and MS does not want people to refuse the update, like they can to 23H2

Will this feature update for 22H2 be a regular (like monthly) Windows Update installer or do you have to perform an in-place upgrade like we had to with the upgrade from Windows 11 21H2 to Windows 11 22H2?

So far, for Insiders at least... it's just like a monthly update.
It will probably be like that for everyone that has compatible hardware.

On unsupported hardware... an In-Place Upgrade may be necessary.
Sometimes, for some unknowable reason... some folk's computers just won't take a feature update via Windows Update.
For those few... an In-Place Upgrade will be necessary.

Short answer: You will need to wait and see, just like the rest of us. ^^

Take something that's intuitive, efficient and simple, and...

1. Add a pinch of confusion, a dash of bad design, and a serving of broken GUI... and call it progress.

2. And for dessert... break any work-arounds that users may have found.

Probably because there was no major upgrade in the first half of the year ("H1"). Now that there is in this 2nd half of the year ("H2") it is called 23H2. I know you realize this but newbees might not know the naming convention.

MS never ceases to amaze with their reasoning on some things. Introducing such major features like copilot and a revamp if file explorer in a cumulative, only to release an entirely new version less than 2 weeks later.

The idea is to make those changes mandatory o the user. Cumulative updates can be forced, not the big 2xHx updates. It will force the adoption of those features through the community.
