Estimated Launch: July-October 2024

Based on the company's previous release playbook and leaks, we estimate that Windows 12 will launch in the second half of 2024. This would put the release date around July-October 2024, aligning with Microsoft's traditional launch Windows.


Is that true?

No, W11 24H2 is expected in the second half of 2024. The code is believed to be signed off, and under final testing by MS partners.

There is a general consensus that 24H2 will be the last W11 version. And the next major release will be W12.

No brag, just fact....
I'm already running 24H2 and I don't see what all the fuss is about. It runs just like 23H2. The only difference is that to run 24H2 you must have a CPU with the SSE4.2 instruction set included. Otherwise the OS will install but will not boot up and run. And, that eliminates millions of PC's world wide.
Just another scheme, by MS, to get people to buy new PC's, Chinese made, of course!

Windows 12? Do we really need it?

I already have 2 Notebooks from 2014 upgraded from Win10 to unsupported Win11 version 23H2, one Pro and one Home, just waiting to see what Win11 24H2 will do to them. Both have the SSE4.2.

No. Windows 12 won't appear before 2030. A lot of massive code rewriting has to take a place and its a huge undertaking.

Until then, Windows 11 will fill the gap.

Two years ago, I replaced his and hers Laptops, just b/c. We don't need the latest and greatest for home use that we do. The old 2, are there and update until no longer available, which is no big deal. Life moves on.

And, if you're tied to MS, your options are limited, but,
if you're willing to go "Off Campus" so to speak, you can upgrade to Windows 11, assuming those laptops can run a 64 bit OS.
 
Ya, but they are there just b/c, in the basement collecting dust, more less. They don't get any real use unless I'm down there and something comes to mind. They are sync'd too. O, forgot, I have a 11" Toshiba that I saved from a time ago, and used to take to morning breakfast at the local restaurant, up until Covid. When I return to breakfast, that Toshiba will be with me, for emails, etc. I keep the MS security updated too.
