Windows 11 Home 22H2
I'm new to Windows 11 (Home). so apologies if this a daft question.

This is a new laptop and I have run Windows Update to get up to date (except for the optional 2022-11 Cumulative Update KB501 9157).

My System / About Info shows:
Windows 11 Home,
Version: 21H2
OS Build: 22000,1219

While Searching for solutions to two issues (posted in another topic). I see references to Windows 11 build 22593, Windows 11 build 25136 and build 22621.160 and so on. So it looks like the solutions put forward in those other topics / tutorials would not apply to me.

My question is - how do these build numbers relate to me. Is my system out of date. Colour me confused.

Windows 11 is on a single release cadence that comes out typically in Q3 as is noted by the version. 21H2 for 2021, 22H2 for 2022 release. These versions for Home and Pro have support for 24 months from release. The major build numbers (first number) match up with the specific versions and the minor (second number) coincide with KB releases. So build 22000.xxxx is correct for version 21H2

22000.xxx is the original 21H2 public release. 22621.xxx is the current 22H2 public release.

22621 is also the Insider Beta channel and Release Preview channel build, with 22623 also seen in the Beta channel (same as 22621 but with some new features enabled).

25xxx.xxx is the build in the Insider Dev channel. It's the least stable build where experimental new features get tested, some of which may never make it into the release builds.

When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

I ran across a similar situation with an HP All-in-One that I support. The most recent build was 22000.xxxx, so I ran Windows Update and what it offered was the 22H2 build -- directly. So, I ran that and it updated directly to build 22621.819. I didn't want to mess around with W10UI since this is an OEM machine. You might want to check Windows Update to see if 22H2 is being offered to you and use that to update to the current Win11 version.

Thank you al - there was a preview Cumulative Update (KB 501 9157). Today, this was not listed as a preview, so I have installed it. My OS Build is now 21H2, 22000.1281. So, my question now is - when will the 22H1 and 22H2 updates show up. (I do not wish to be an Insider. ;-) )

Maybe they are not available yet as this is a new laptop???

You can tell that it was a preview update because it was offered as an optional update. You were not obliged to install it.

The main non-optional update is issued once a month on Patch Tuesday, the second Tuesday of each month. The next one will be on Tuesday 13th. This is the only update that contains new security patches. Each cumulative update contains all the fixes from previous ones, so you only ever need the latest one.

Windows 10 and 11 follow the same servicing cadence, described here:
