When I try to start the service named FDResPub, I get the error Windows could not start the Function Discovery Resource Publication service on Local Computer.

Error 0x8007273a: An unknown, invalid or unsupported option or level was specified in a getsockopt or setsockopt call.

I found the thread about resetting services and followed the steps to reset the Function Discovery Resource Publication service but the problem remains.

Welcome to the forum.
First attempt to change the startup type. Search for services and open the services app.
  • locate the Function Discovery Resource Publication service.
  • Double-click on the entry to edit its properties.
  • In the properties window, click the drop-down on the Startup type and select Automatic (Delayed).
  • Click Apply > OK to save changes.
  • Restart PC.
Generally, if any windows service will not start after you have tried the basic troubleshooting, then you might be dealing with OS corruption. Open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow
Pay attention to the scan results to see if SFC found anything it could not repair. If it found corruption it could not fix followup with this command (note the spaces)
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Restart computer.

Hopefully this will fix it for you, but if it doesn't, a repair install of the OS should do the trick. Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade Tutorial

Thanks for your suggestions, glasskuter.
I set the start up type to Automatic (Delayed), saved the change and rebooted. Next, I looked to be sure the startup type was Automatic (Delayed) and it was. I tried to start FDResPub and got the same error message.

Next, I followed your suggestion to run sfc /scannow It ran successfully and found no errors. I rebooted and tried to start FDResPub again -- same error. Next I ran dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth and rebooted. Ran services again and tried to start FDResPub -- same error.
When I have time, I will try Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade Tutorial
I will report back what happens! As they say in some countries, "Thumbs Held!" (The equivalent to "Fingers Crossed!"

I tried everything suggested in
https://thegeekpage.com/network-discovery-is-turned-off/#Method_2_Start_Dependency_Services
None of it worked. Next, I followed the steps in Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade Tutorial
I chose the option to keep my files and apps. The restore worked but it still did not fix the error

Windows could not start the Function Discovery Resource Publication service on Local Computer.
Error 0x8007273a: An unknown, invalid or unsupported option or level was specified in a getsockopt or setsockopt call.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I found an old post on MS forum where a windows 10 user (who I believe is our @johnlgalt )was advised to enter safe mode with command prompt and type netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
then normally boot computer. He said it showed a few access denied errors when he ran the command, but after reboot the service started.
A number of others replied that it helped them as well. You might give it a try.

You might also try disabling your firewall and then starting the services to see if it makes any difference.

I'm out of ideas after that other than a clean install. I hope others, John maybe, will step in and have more suggestions for you. Whatever you find that fixes this, please report back.

Before I started this thread, I had seen the suggestion about entering safe mode with command prompt and typing netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt Unfortunately, it didn't fix the issue.

Also, I have googled "Error 0x8007273a: An unknown, invalid or unsupported option or level was specified in a getsockopt or setsockopt call." but I cannot find anything that specifically talks about how to fix the getsockopt or setsockopt call error message.

At this point, I am considering biting the bullet and doing a clean install. 😖

hi guys

this fix works great on win10 -> sc config fdrespub depend= RpcSs/http/fdphost/LanmanWorkstation but i am not sure it does the same on win11.

I can see all the win10 PCs on my Win11's file explorer -> network section, i can see the 11 PC on all the 10's but the only thing not working is win11 on itself... which is kinda odd... any thoughts?
