Solved Windows Settings — Why does System > Storage trigger a UAC prompt?

Hello,

For some time now, I've noticed that after opening the Settings app on Windows, clicking on System > Storage causes a UAC (User Account Control) prompt to appear.
I'm curious whether this is an intentional change introduced by a Windows update.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any information about it?

Yes this was introduced I think in either the April or May Cumulative Update. The June Update has changed it again at least for 2 of our pcs. On them, when you click on storage, no UAC appears but there's a separate "Clean Up System Files" button at the top which uses UAC.

Starting with Windows 11 build 26100.7705 (24H2) and build 26200.7705 (25H2), to help ensure that only authorized Windows users can access system files, Windows now displays a User Account Control (UAC) prompt when you open Storage settings (Settings > System > Storage).

UPDATED:
Starting with Windows 11 build 26100.8524 (24H2) and build 26200.8524 (25H2), Microsoft updated Settings > System > Storage, so rather than seeing a UAC prompt immediately when you go to the page, you’ll only see it when going to view temporary files.

That's interesting information. My OS build is 26200.8655 (25H2), but in my case, the UAC prompt appears only when I open the Storage page, not when viewing temporary files.

Could this be because I'm on the general release channel rather than the Release Preview (RP) channel? Or is there a separate reason why this fix hasn't reached my build yet?

This is still listed as a gradual rollout, so you should get this eventually.

That makes sense, thank you.
I'll just wait for the rollout to reach my build then.
